The only people likely to buy a new EV are people in the market for a new car. Your comment makes zero sense. The cost of a new EV is very similar to the cost of a new ICE vehicle. And itβs even cheaper if you consider fuel and maintenance costs. That is not whatβs holding back EV adoption.

I wasnβt saying thereβs any improvement to the financial accounts. Just the headlines. Share price for Muskβs businesses are only barely related to their financial performance.

Bold move? Every car off that production line increases the share price more than the cost of production. Hardly a bold move, just a logical corollary to Muskβs business strategy.

Itβs incredible how the USA squandered its technological lead in new technology to China by succumbing to old tech propaganda. And it was just the portend of its descent into irrelevance.

I guess if youβre doing regular trips over 500km or donβt have an accessible power point at home that could be an issue but I wouldnβt bother with plug-in hybrid in that case, why bother carrying around a second motor and battery?

If you love torque and efficiency, why donβt you have an EV? They take about 20-30% of the energy to go the same distance. And torque is flat from zero.

I live in Melbourne Australia. Temperatures reach over 35Β° often in Summer and over 40Β° 2-3 times a year. Apart from the cooling getting a bit of a workout my car works fine. Itβs especially nice to get into a cool car at the end of the day. As to an apocalypse, my solar system can charge my car.

Road user charge for all. ICE vehicles pay an environment, health and pollution tax depending on emissions.

Of course it does. The more you drive, the sooner you pay off that βdebtβ. That doesnβt change this fact: You knew full well that everyone talks about βcarbon debt compared to ICEβ but pretended that you had read βcarbon debt compared to nothingβ. You are dishonest and yet you call me a βparrotβ.

Oh OK. Happy to discuss. It all depends on how the EV gets its energy. If itβs from 100% clean energy (say youβre charging from your own solar panels), then one year is possible. If itβs from the grid, which for most places is about 40% renewable, then itβs going to take 2 to 4 years.

Doesnβt mean you have to! But just one reference then, should be super easy to find. Just ONE person saying that an EV will magically become zero carbon after a year. Did you think that some people think EV actually absorb CO2 from the atmosphere??

Yes but youβve misunderstood that claim. That is comparing an EV to an ICEV not comparing an EV to nothing. Perhaps provide the whole article with the quote in context and we can discuss what the author meant by βcarbon debtβ.

Sorry youβve mangled that fact. It takes a year or two to pay off the increased cost of carbon in the manufacturing COMPARED TO AN ICE VEHICLE. No one has said an EV is carbon neutral, youβve just misunderstood the facts. Yes βan EV becomes carbon neutral after a yearβ is indeed nonsense.

But most stuff that will go wrong is mechanical, so in the long term itβll be just purchasing parts either new from Polestar or from a wreckers. Thereβs no difference to any other car. Also lots of people do EV conversions of classic cars. 2/3

I donβt get this complaint. 400 miles in a weekend means stopping to charge once for 20 minutes, or charging overnight while you sleep. Sure it might be slightly inconvenient, but surely itβs worth it to help reduce co2 emissions?
