Patriots--like the Broncos, Bucs, and Seahawks--look best in their throwbacks.

(unless this map is intended to show a relative comparison to the size of each country, in which case ignore these posts)

Scale is way off. If the U.S. comparison showed red territory from about Virginia Beach down to Jacksonville, and didn't include any areas in the Appalachians, maybe it'd be closer (still a lot, obviously). Ukraine (including occupied territory) is about 30,000 sq. mi. smaller than Texas.

There’s at least one federal court case that found FSM to be satire and not an actual religion.

The text of the sonnet, β€œThe New Colossus,” written by American poet Emma Lazarus in 1883 to help raise funds to construct the base of the Statue of Liberty, and which text has been engraved on a plaque on that constructed base. Next to the text on the left is a photoshopped image of the statue itself.

The stakes have never been higher, and the goal has never been more clear:

I seem to recall random "OU Sucks" cheers/chants when I lived in Austin, regardless as to whether OU was playing any of the UT teams.

I'm between all the sports and political posts, I've enjoyed reading all the glimpses into folks' holiday traditions.

Gen A youngest nephew (the football player) as we're driving along looking at Christmas light displays, when passing a large Gothic style church with its own, large, graveyard on church grounds: "How many people did this church kill?!"

Sure it is. In both, actually, just like it is in Austin.

But it is still recognized as a Texas national championship by the NCAA, the AFCA, the University of Texas Athletics Department, and football fans everywhere.

Right, but that disputes that it's not recognized. Texas and Nebraska are even designated "Consensus" in the NCAA record books.

I'm talking the 1970 season when Nebraska had the better team.

Neither is Texas's 1970 title. Doesn't make it illegitimate.

And technically, the NCAA doesn't recognize champions in FBS football. They do list those awarded by major selectors, which have included the AP poll in every year it has been a thing.

AP starting in 1936 and Coaches starting in the 1950s we're pretty common/accepted contemporary rankings.

Curious to learn why you discount the 1939 AP Poll and the 5 other contemporary selectors that ranked A&M #1 in their final rankings.

Hot damn, the comments about nice vs kind really hit, as well as the community aspect. I realize OK isn’t much better than TX in the aspects this author mentions (and worse in some), but those two items are distinct cultural differences north and south of the Red River.

Stephen Miller’s ancestors were Jewish refugees from the pogroms in czarist Russia. They came to the U.S. in the early twentieth century, even as racists said this same stuff about them.
