この季節から大学院では修士・博士論文の発表会が続きます。発表準備のポイント 4 点がなかなか良いので参考にどうぞ。

1. 質問を想定して答えを準備しておこう。
2. 発表会は公式行事です。適した服装を。
5. 答えられない質問もあるものと覚悟しておく。「今は分かりません。しかし xxx すれば分かると思います」のような答えで十分なケースも多い。
6. 自分のストレス解消法を知って、発表前・中・あとにそれを実行。

途中の 3. 4. は日本の学生さんにはあまり当てはまらないので省略。本文中にもありますが、審査員は落とそうと思って審査しているのではありません。しっかり準備すれば必ず報われます。

この大統領令はぱっと見「方法論」はまともそうなの（でそれに目がくらんでしまっている人もいるみたい）ですが、中身はめちゃくちゃ、と。

最近出た『科学におけるゴールドスタンダードを復活』とかいう大統領令に対する米国地球物理学連合の出版する各学術誌の編集長の意見が出版されました。Key points の私訳です。

●この大統領令は米国憲法に違反している。政権の意向に従わない科学出版を検閲し制裁しようとするものだ。

●この米国の科学界の知見を誤解と歪曲で印象付けようとする文章は、科学と科学者に対する不信をひとびとに植え付けようとする見え透いた試みである。

●この大統領令が実行されれば、米国の経済・テクノロジー・軍事的国家安全保障の健全性が著しく失われると考えられる。

[Q] When you write "Pacific and Indian oceans", do you capitalize "o" as in "Oceans"?

In a well-known paper (doi.org/10.1038/3791...) it is not. I have looked at style guides in several oceanography journals but could not find an explicit statement. 🤔

Hundreds of metres of wire is coiled inside the tube, which is thrown out as the probe falls in the water. The wire sends the measurements back to deck. Very clever.

That is the hand launcher. The temperature probe is set inside of the tube attached to the launcher. You might be able to see the black probe just dropped out of the tube.
