Yes! From what we know, they winter mainly in Angola and Namibia. Last year, we managed to obtain data from an individual that crossed 19 countries over a period of almost 5 months, ending up in Namibia for the winter!

European rollers in Portugal face habitat loss, specially concerning nesting resources, most likely due to changing agricultural practices. The Castro Verde SPA remains a key breeding ground for them due to its relatively stable habitat!

The European Roller (Coracias garrulus) keeps declining in Portugal. Our 2024 census shows over 95% of the population constricted to the Castro Verde SPA.
We must roll up our sleeves and help them thrive!
