In the past, we often found that search FAQs at various databases do not reliably display search functionality. We encourage researchers, especially those doing systematic searches, to be aware of search functionality limitations to avoid database biases.

While our data shows that @ResearchGate is second-best in forward citation coverage, their search and export capabilities are very limited. Details:Most people love it as a social media tool, and indeed it should be used that way rather than for search.

Well, we just added @ResearchGate and validated these functionalities. Turns out that none of them work reliably, unfortunately: Boolean search results do not add up, showing inadequate results, and neither exact searches with "", nor nested searches with () seem to work.

Overton covers formats from white papers to national guidelines, making it interesting for research impact assessment. It works well for systematic keyword searching and backward citation searching - also due to generous export options.

📢 Exciting news! Search Smart now covers the @overtonio databases for both scholarly articles and policy documents.

🌐Overton states to offer the world’s largest collection of policy documents, currently indexing over 13 million from more than 188 countries.

Interesting for systematic reviewers: @ProQuest now supports bulk downloads of up to 20,000 records. Just create a MyResearch account and download the search results there.

E.g. you can compare all 'journal platforms' operated by publishers and see differences in open access coverage (image). Or you can limit to databases by aggregators (ProQuest, Web of Science, Ebsco, Ovid) etc.

Additionally, we now also list @DSDimensions clinical trials resource. With this update, you can now compare 91 scholarly databases and 17 clinical trial databases.

We now cover @policy_commons, a database that covers about 3.8 million policy reports from NGOs, agencies, think tanks, and cities. The database is paywalled, but it allows 25 free searches per month.

Our tests show @econbiz is very capable in Boolean searching too.

So, economics and business researchers might use EconBiz in their systematic literature reviews or meta-analyses! Queries up to 250 keywords are no problem (however, no abstract searches, unfortunately). (3/3)

Good news for economists and business researchers! We now cover @econbiz (online again after a hack). Among econ-specialized databases, EconBiz's coverage gets only beaten by ABI/Inform, which covers many non-scholarly works, though. (1/3)
