The points are all over the place, it’s really hard to predict where things are going. Don’t think there’s going to be a runaway winner

Would’ve been a long night if you had stayed the best part of an hour behind!

Austria and Sweden were the two that stood out for us. Pleasantly surprised at how well we’re scoring!

I think that person needs to think very hard about what they’ve just said. We’ve blown straight through the interval and are now live, on the green room interviews and voting is still going

I am definitely skipping the interval! The standard this year has been pretty poor. Get me to the votes and the winner

France - so we’re roughly about the same spot. Have been spinning through all the waffle! I’m sure I’ve missed some classic lines from Graham Norton though

I was at ice hockey tonight for a testimonial game - didn’t start watching until gone 9 so am quite behind!

Sustainability is all about reducing carbon emissions, right?

Nope! In our first 2025 paper, we review & identify 44 factors that contribute towards sustainability in the UK EV supply chain. We need to look beyond our three pillars to be truly sustainable.

We’re going to get a range of guests on, and go live as well so we can get comments and questions from fans too. Will still be available to watch afterwards as well if people can’t be online live

Proposal review panels are both exhausting and fascinating at the same time. So many cool ideas - you want to see so many come to fruition. Sadly there’s not the money so you end up debating the tiniest of flaws to generate a list. Definitely time for a beer!

It's taking a lot of planning, but we finally got this one launched.

A pint of beer.

A pint of beer.

Saturday night after a long week. About to watch the youngest’s latest dance show. Beer selection isn’t the greatest, but we’re in a working men’s club and it’s cheap

Supervision would include more than just contact hours - all the emails, feedback of written work etc. Also, what you think you should be spending in terms of time is not the time your institution tells you that you should be spending!

Here’s a question that we’ve been discussing recently for those in the #Bluesky who supervise PhD students. How long do you spend β€œsupervising” your students per week/month? And how long do you think you should be spending β€œsupervising”?

The Blaze were quite good. Also, hear me and Ed do our thing in the highlights.

Big win at the Skydome this evening for the good guys. For myself, this is a great outlet after a busy week and I get to enjoy doing commentary and something completely different to the day job.

If these are the best that we can come up with for wins following #COP29, then the whole process has been a net loss.

It’s been a good week. Seeing former students be so successful, getting a project over the line…and yet my highlight of the week is still that I’ve got Linkin Park tickets for Wembley and am very excited.

Partner Spotlight: Interview with Dr. Geoff Brighty of Mura Technology - ecoinvent

Today in my world? Well, I can’t tell you what I did this morning. It’s a secret. Was really interesting though, you’ll just have to trust me. Instead, you can read an blog with Geoff Brighty & how we’ve got our #plasticrecycling LCA into the latest ecoinvent database ecoinvent.org/blog/partner...

But that wasn’t it! The final stop was a quick walk across Green Park to get to the Royal Academy of Engineering where our Sustainable Materials & Manufacturing CDT had its final annual conference - was fantastic to hear of so many success stories from the previous cohorts

Final session looked at circularity within the FMCG sector, and how collaboration across the supply chain is essential. Sharing data in a meaningful way is needed to move along emissions reductions - if only because your scope 1/2 is someone else’s scope 3!

After lunch was my favourite topic - plastics and chemicals! Interesting divergence in ideas on how we get to Net Zero (but not beyond?!) but all getting to the same key points of move away from virgin fossil and stop burning waste plastics. Creating inherent value in plastics is essential.

Second session included a great talk from Louise Manning (U. Lincoln) on making agri-food sustainable from field to fork. Particularly topical given the protests here in London today! The Sustainability Advisory Group also had a very good panel with insights on translating climate change to change.

First order of business - β€œsoft” launch of the new SCI Sustainability journal. An interdisciplinary journal that embraces a systems thinking approach to sustainability problems. Not limited to technological developments, but also policy, supply chains and standards. I’m on the editorial board too!

I’m in London today for the SCI’s β€œWhere Science Meets Business 2024”. Theme today is all about strategic sustainability, bringing together academia and industry across disciplines to solve emerging and important global challenges.

This is the point that is lost by many. One cycleway won’t change the habits of many because there are problem patches of road everywhere. Coventry needs a connected cycle network in order to really promote active travel.
