there are still plenty of people in games who believe this idea that you're not really committed unless you're spending 80 hour weeks making games. it's a lie, and we shouldn't support people's unhealthy and unsustainable attitudes towards how they approach work and live their lives.

Hey All, I made a header only C++ library (MIT) where line of code inits, then you can start writing to pixels on the screen.

I call it thirteen.h, inspired by the simplicity of the 13h days.

Examples include a mandelbrot viewer and a playable mine sweeper game.

I’d love to know the magic behind how one knows what shapes to place in a scene and how to distribute them. Often when I’ve tried to expand from single-assets to larger pieces like a multi-deck ship, I give up because my shapes and distribution of them look β€œoff” somehow.

Here is a view of the 1:1 improvements of moving heavy loops from blueprints (lots of small lines) to C++ in UE5
I am not even done!
Yellow and Blue calls have been converted, Green and Red are next, then we can cleanup logic in C++, maybe even tap some multi thread... but, 1MSπŸ‘

Only reason I haven’t switched to Linux full-time is I’m tethered to Unreal Engine, and for the coding-new, getting it going under Linux seems to be a bit of a pain… also very poor cross-compilation support compared to Windows.

I’m considering giving Unity engine a go, and to solve some issues I’ve got with it coming from Unreal, there are two assets that look like they’ll be invaluable to me: HTrace Ambient Occlusion, and HTrace World-Space Global Illumination.

Amazing how Unity gets these advancements and alternatives!
