I think there's an option to go a bit more attacking in home games against weaker teams, but we've only seen Everton in that bracket so far - when he played Tanaka over Longstaff of course.

So good. I don't check on Wet Tuna for a while and there are another half-dozen records to dig into. "Dank, dubby dark magus" pretty much nails this one.

I can hear voices which are clearly technically good, characterful, emotionally compelling, exciting etc but which I don’t like. I used to try and avoid writing about them - there are singers I’ve barely written a word about in 35 years for precisely this reason

Not liking certain voices for uncertain reasons has always been the hardest thing for me to deal with as a music journalist. It’s often a gut thing which is a nightmare to justify.

I feel weird when I keep going on about a record that everyone else is going on about.

Sorry to be a music journalist, but I really cannot stop playing this incredible record. www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5nf...

Personally preferred it when pop stars actually did substantive interviews and slagged off rivals there, rather than were a bit snide in songs. But obviously I have skin in the game.

Finally someone talking sense. Why so many people are obsessed with the season when everything dies is beyond me.

Possibly my MOTM on Saturday, great as Stach, Ampadu and DCL were.

My longshot prediction for the season was that Bogle makes an England squad. Seen nothing yet to think it's *that* outlandish.

Personally quite invested in people other than music critics reading my work and the magazine I edit, but maybe that's just me.

My vague professional hunch is that maybe fewer readers are interested in extended thinkpieces about the word "poptimism" than a lot of music critics think they are.

Finally, finally got round to playing Van Morrison's Remembering Now and yes it sounds to me like his best album *by far* for at least 35 years. Stretching Out, just how I always want him to do...
