Guildford MathsJam: we’re not usually this messy…

#nottingham Jam have written a spreadsheet to solve the first two Code Wheel puzzles in the shout making both a Caesar and Enigma wheel spreadsheet style. Now onto the third code.

Cheltenham are at table 35 with a comprime number of people, enjoying decoding messages from the Shout. Today we learned how to pronounce Scytale.

No sign of any more people yet, but we've been playing with folding puzzles and codebreaking from the Shout - thanks, MathsWorld!

Manchester's table doesn't have a number to have interesting properties, but there are 7 people here which is prime. If any more people come we'll report what's interesting about that number

Cheltenham were also enjoying the annecdotes and logic puzzles in Raymond Smullyan‘s “The Godelian Puzzle book“. I also recommended Douglas Hofstadter’s book “Godel, Escher, Bach…” - well known to those of a certain age, but new to our younger members.

Congratulations to our member Max who has just gained his maths degree and hopes now to be attending more regularly. We also discussed Matt Parker’s latest show (we liked it), Cornu spirals and Phasor diagrams.

After a bit of a break, Tacoma MathsJam is back in force. Had a great time, looking at dominoes, and asking similar questions about rectangular triominoes. In honor of the Shouts authors, someone brought a book they had been gifted but not yet explored.

Glasgow Mathsjam has finally worked out how to log in to Mastodon... and our first post is say we managed to solve all the puzzles this month!

Manchester: we have also built a set of Soma cube pieces out of train tickets and covered them in different colours of card, because why not
