I finished another couple of baskets. These are using handles I ordered in. On one I tried my first braided handle wrap and the other I did a simple leather wrap. Both are using my homemade Cherry feet.

Possibly influenced by my work on the pottery wheel - I've tried adding contours to my baskets with varied success, though I think this one has an interesting shape (to myself at least). 14" high without handles, 14"x10.5" at the rim. 8"x12" Cherry Base and handles that I made in my little workshop.

I made a basket today using the leather handles I finished a few days ago. The straps are both supple and long enough to allow the basket to hang comfortably over a forearm, or to be held in the a hand, and will lay flattish to the sides. 14.75" high, 18"x13.5" at the rim.

I finished the basket I've been puttering at. This one has solid cherry base (including little pretty feet) and cherry handles, both of which I made a while ago. I hand dyed the blue material. 10.5" high (without handles), 10.5" across the rim.

I finished the leather basket handles I've been puttering at, I'll put them aside until later. I will be running the rim row of the basket through the leather mounting hoops, I plan to punch another hole in the strap "tails" to provide an additional mounting point on the body of the basket.

I finished another basket. Though it may seem I only make one style I do make different types, just having a bit of a run on this version with different patterns. Cherry handles and feet I made a while ago as well as more of the material I dyed. 14" high, 12.5" x 18.5" at the rim.

I'm making some leather handles for upcoming baskets. I thought it would be nice to have a pattern so I'm stamping the straps with a basket weave design. Slow going for me but I like the eventual look. Once this is done I can proceed with dyeing and stitching.

Now that I'm able to move my looms around I thought I'd start a scarf while the final coats of finish on the basket handles dried. Cotton warp with a Tencel weft on my 8-shaft loom. The setup for this pattern is a bit more complicated than most of my weaving efforts.

I finished the basket handles, clips and feet I've been puttering at for the last while. Each of the larger baskets I make need two handles so I have enough for eight baskets. These are Cherry as are the feet & clips. these take a lot of time, now to make the baskets.

My first attempts at making leather stuff for baskets, though by no means successful were encouraging enough to invest in more material. Lots of new terms and skills to learn but it will be nice to have another option to my handmade wood handles. My wife is less excited than I.

Some of the basket plans I have call for leather straps or handles. These can be purchased online but often the basket plans use a handle design from a specific supplier (usually American) so I've decided to try to make my own, for better or worse.

I'm building a device. Designing on the fly based on what I've seen in a number of YouTube videos, it's nice making my old brain do some thinking. May or may not work, if not, lots of information gathered.

On this basket I experimented with shaping in a contour, modest success but I think it does add a bit of a dynamic aspect (?). I'll have to practice this a bit more but I'm happy with how this worked out. Again I used my handmade handles and base made from Cherry.

I make a mess when weaving baskets, but at least this is a colourful mess.

I finished another basket today. I used a couple of the handles and a base I made from Cherry wood. It's 14.5" high without handles, 15" wide, and 10.25" deep. I think it's feet set it off nicely.

I finished another basket today. Our daughter Melissa works with leather and she was kind enough to cut me some strips that I fashioned into pretty (in my eyes) handles. The base is a twill design that was a bit hard on my poor old brain to puzzle out.
Dimensions: 4.75" high, 19" wide, 13" deep.

I finished the basket I started the other day. I'm experimenting with patterns using material I hand dyed.
I made the handles and feet from Cherry. Height without handles is 14", width is 19" and the depth is 12".

I just finished some 8"x12" & 8" round basket bases made from Cherry.
I put little feet on them as it makes me sad to think of this pretty material in direct contact with the ground (!)
These match the handles I finished a while ago so I'm good to go for basket weaving!

In between weaving I've continued puttering at the batch of basket handles. I've finished the initial shaping, rough sanding, and drilling the mounting holes. These stages took three days of hands-on work, so added to the 23 days spent to this point we have 26 days.

I finished the job on my 16" loom and have got underway with a project on my homemade 32" rigid heddle loom. I'm using a more colourful Noro yarn to add some sparkle to a dreary February.

I finished wet shaping 20 basket handles. Each handle needed to be soaked for one day, then a second day clamped in the form. I can work on two handles at a time so this stage took twelve days.
