In general I think the chapter is highlighting our personal foundation for interactions. What framework do we use? Jesus is challenging our constructs for trust, faith, and depending on God, wealth, status, or ourselves. This chapter forces us to address inconsistencies with our stated beliefs.

One commentator points out that reciprocal and reflexive pronouns are used. We bear with each other and we forgive ourselves.

Colossians 3 also gives practical advice for bearing with each other: consider how Jesus has forgiven you if your complaint seems too great for forgiveness.

In Colossians 3, Bearing with each other seems to be bound to forgiveness. Makes sense, since forgiveness lightens the burdens one would have to bear.

Joy restrains the intensity of pain and permits one to give measured responses to injuries. When one regulates their emotions, they experience peace regularly.

When I read this week's Commentary, I thought of my struggle with showing grace. I find it hard incorporating holiness and mercy in my own demonstrations of loving discipline. I seem to miss the mark and find myself lacking one or both to various degrees.

I've been contemplating a new sermon series. I've not dug into studying yet, but I've been meditating on multiple scriptures. I can't wait to engage in some deep Bible study.

So... I know God is gracious. His grace is holy and loving. I struggle with incorporating both when extending grace. Sometimes I feel like I'm endorsing unholiness when I love at high levels, but I don't feel loving when I attempt to maintain holy standards. Showing grace is highly difficult.

I found out that the "for-" in "forgive" has roots in old-English prefix meaning completely. I thought it meant before. Hence I made it a practice to forgive first. However, when I forgive, I must do it completely, wholly, and without catches or strings attached.

Today I guessed - Ρξισταμι - would mean leave or stand outside. Based on recognizing ισταμι with Ρκ- prefix. I would have never guessed it means amazed or astonished. I guess that's why I have to memorize vocabulary.

(I wonder how the word "outstanding" ties into Ρξισταμι?) πŸ€”

I've been reading a suggested linguistics book and I'm noticing some deficiencies in English.
i.e. what would I mean by "content creator?" A satisfied creator or one who creates stuff?
I realize how important accent marks are and why other languages have them.

Today's D-Dose-o-Greek is a reminder to avoid etymological fallacies. I saw τιμάω and missed Ρ̓πι-τιμάω 's meaning completely. I had guessed that Jesus was heaping honor or much praise on them.
Imagine my shock when Dr. Plummer translated the verse.

Today's D-Dose-o-Greek piqued my interest in the word ἀκολουθέω.
The augment on the alpha (to eta) confused me, so I couldn't figure out the word. I discovered it is a root. I was more interested.
So... What does it mean to follow? ... To follow Jesus? ...To be an acolyte? ...disciple?

This is the fallacy of 'keeping score' of simple actions. Outside goodness can be staged. One would do best to cultivate genuine faith and relationships. A lifestyle will flow from what one believes, and reveal the integrity of individual actions. I believe God, so I act accordingly.

Phillip Yancy described how Grace is counter intuitive to human nature and I struggle with grace at the intersection of being a child of God and being a parent of adult children.
How do I give grace without guilt and chastise free from trauma?

Today's Daily Dose of Greek made me consider:
"συμβούλιον"

How close are plotting and consulting?

The root can have two senses, my wants (or wishes) or what one advises.

So I guess it depends...
If I only seek cosigners of my wishes, I'm plotting.
Listening to wisdom is consulting.

But to their defense... You only left the lines of communication open. You didn't make them talk to you. Plus, why didn't you remind them everyday and twice on Sundays.

I took a basic Greek course and I enjoy the daily dose of Greek podcast. Today, I focused on the word for 'healthy' or 'whole.' It reminds me of our English word hygiene.

I was thinking about John the Baptist attitude when Jesus showed up. I challenged myself to have the same sentiment and said, "Jesus must increase and I must decrease." When we give our lives to Him, our ambition needs to be governed by our faith in God.
