it's wild to me to think back on my own childhood, to trick or treating my way through high school, to remembering how many adults in my life were like "you're too old! imagine what those people are thinking when they open the door up to see you and not a little kid!"

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing? 2? Questions I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up. Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

this is the inverse of what happened to my sister last winter. she rented a car, decided she wanted to add another driver to the agreement, and went to the local office.... who said the car she was driving was on the lot at the airport and there wasn't a contract, so they couldn't add a driver.

if i ran a bookstore i would organise it like a library, complete with public terminals where people could look up their niche interests in peace. it would be easy to find all the books on your topic in one place without wondering if this particular store thinks it's world history or social science

finishing a second- or third-round interview and then not being able to get a reply from anyone more than a week later? yikes.

i truly think there is no bigger red flag about a company than knowing they ghost people during the interview process.

bad enough that most companies won't bother even sending a "thanks but no thanks" letter to most applicants.
