Do we know what date development finished? That's got to be close to the end, right?

26.02.2026 01:35 — 👍 6 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Epic's games subsidize Unreal. Unreal revenue has never been much compared to what their games make. They make it because they need to, and they get a little extra from it. It's just some bonus money from work they were going to do anyway.

This gen got us SSDs, last gen got us built in hard drives and online stores. Is there even an obvious new feature now? We can wait longer.

If we're going to run the trains like this, maybe we should rename it Trump Station.
It's insane how opposed we are to having functional infrastructure.
No idea what the gripe here is with N64. Never had an issue with that.
GCN D-pad was just bad.
Wiimote D-pad was fine for what they intended. Horizontal Wiimote really shouldn't have been a thing tho.
Joycons are straight up "what if we made the worst controllers possible?"
I've been assuming for a while now that AOC is taking his seat when his term ends. She's ready for it.
And when the new leaders are voted on late this year, that'd be a great time to pull him aside and say "step down gracefully so that we don't have to publicly kick you out".
Looks like a crazy spike in 2018 followed almost immediately by a pretty big drop, then a steady decline back to normal.
What happened in 2018 to cause that big a spike? That seems like the odd part, not that it went back down to old levels.
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
This is a great way to get your best staff to leave.
It's not an awful project to do. I've done similar ports. But it's the kind of project that needs an A team, while management will often try to throw it at a B team.
This really sounds like they threw it at a B team, then realized their mistake too late and didn't want to spend to salvage it.
You'll get fun bugs because it was coded assuming a single core, 32 bit CPU running around 500 MHz. Now 8 cores at 3 GHz is low end, and it's all 64 bit.
Most of the time, that won't matter. But when it does matter, it'll probably be obscure bugs that take a lot of time to track down.
And after you fix the engine, you're going to find all sorts of assumptions in the game code about how the engine works. Random things breaking that you never expected.

When you get to modern GPU, the bottlenecks are in different places. You can't just drop in a new renderer, you need to rework the flow. You need to change a lot of assumptions about what order things happen in. Resources will have different lifecycles.
Lots of major things to update.
Seeing lots of talk about Sands of Time getting cancelled.
I suspect Ubi thought they could put a small inexperienced team on it and it'd be an easy port.
It was a game made for fixed function GPUs. If you port that directly to a modern GPU, you're getting a terrible framerate and it looks bad.
It means the project was mismanaged and isn't close to a shippable state. And you think just throwing more money at it won't fix the problems.
You either cancel it, or replace the management and give it a lot more time. If you try to save it, sometimes you get Metroid Prime. Usually get Prime 4.
Gimme those controllers with gyro added

How have you felt on the other recent shows?
I really liked Prodigy. And Lower Decks. Watched Discovery, but that was rough. Picard Season 3 was probably all I really enjoyed. Gave up at like episode 2 or 3 of SNW and gave up on the live action stuff.
I think pretty much everyone always knew those people were full of shit. Everyone's just stating the obvious now.

The Democrats absolutely won the war of public opinion.
But all the Republicans want is for people to suffer and they're not hiding it. Continuing the shutdown accomplished that goal, and even gave them an excuse to break more laws, so they were perfectly happy to continue the shutdown.
There was no win available.
Trump just wanted chaos and destruction. He would've been happy to let the shutdown continue indefinitely.
The deal we got wasn't a good one. It was the least bad one available.
I wanna know why the data is a week old when they launch it. Adds extra insult to it.
09.12.2025 20:37 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It's not really used in professional contexts tho. I don't see myself going near it any time soon.

I always like to tell people to make an early arcade game as a first project. Somewhere around Pong, Asteroids, Pacman level stuff. Grab something like SDL or XNA and you can code that stuff in a few hours.
Feels like a week or two to get something even resembling one of those games in Unreal.
Learning curve is steep. A lot of "that's just how Unreal works" stuff you have to learn before you can do anything at all.
2D looks like it would be really painful to do in it.
Had some down time lately so I've been messing around with Unreal.
Definitely getting the vibe it's meant for big teams that want to minimize the number of programmers they need.
Seeming like a pretty bad match for small teams - especially small indies lead by programmers.
Clearly it's to make sure you have the right genitals to be allowed to used the toilet.
We wouldn't want anything creepy happening in the bathroom.
But seriously, this thing sounds really creepy.
Ended up getting Metroid Prime 4. Best Buy honored my 7 year old pre-order with 20% discount. Guess I'll dust off the Switch soon and check it out.
What's the verdict on this? Saw a few review headlines and it seems like opinions are all over the place on this.
Add a lot of judges. Cases get heard by a randomly picked subset.
And put some real ethics laws in place.
So this launched last week. I had a small part in it. I did the Xbox online multiplayer support.
