I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this. It's all about how it's framed.

She said he also ruined a hunting trip. Sounds like he was very high energy. Some dogs are more difficult than others but I have no double he could have been trained with some patience. Or if he really couldn't be trained to hunt as she claimed, rehomed. I think she was mad and wanted to shoot him.

Exactly! She tries to frame it as doing the hard but necessary thing. No, it was the easy thing, she literally said she hated the dog. The hard thing would have been actually putting in the time and work to train the dog. The okay thing would have been to rehome or surrender to a shelter.

The whole family is huge on hunting and shooting. Tons of pictures with guns on their social media. Whether he did it or not, he was almost definitely capable of making the shot.

Observation hive? There isn't obvious glass but one of the bees looks like it has landed on something invisible.

I thought congress had approved full WIC funding but I find out today the state I'm in will be giving less on it's food packages starting next month. They're going to get less food package funding federally and otherwise would have to cut people from the program. I'm so, so, so angry right now.

I saw this bagworm while taking a walk on my lunch break. I had no idea what it was. Come to find out, this is how they're supposed to be.

In the unlikely case that anyone sees this and lives in the St. Louis area, go see Romeo and Zooliet presented by the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival at the zoo. Its absolutely charming and legitimately fun for the whole family! It's silly enough for the kids but has humor for the adults too.

I know its fun to make fun of young people's slang but we used to say someone or something was "not all that and a bag of potato chips" so maybe we should chill a little on the judgement.

I saw a local FL article about this last night on FB and the comments under it were absolutely disgusting.

Sometimes I get overwhelmed with parenting and then I think at least I'm not one of those mama possums with 15 babies clinging to my back.

I like to wonder which way the cause an effect are on some of these. Are more educated people more likely to turn from religion or are non-religious people more likely to seek education? (My guess would some of both).

I've been worried this would happen. I have worked at a WIC clinic for 10 years and see first hand how important it is.

ICE Arrests Mississippi Father at His Citizenship Hearing ICE arrested Kasper Eriksen, a Mississippi father, at his citizenship hearing, imprisoning him and threatening him with deportation.

When he showed up to an immigration meeting in Memphis, Kasper Eriksen thought he was on the verge of becoming a citizen.

Then ICE arrested the Mississippi father of four, not even giving him a chance to say goodbye to his wife, whisking him away to a prison.

I work at a WIC clinic and want everyone to know that if you and/or family member(s) qualify for WIC, please utilize it. Even if you're near the top of the income requirements, you're not taking it away from anyone else, that's not how it works. WIC wants everyone eligible to use their services!

My dad got his BS in zoology in the 60s and half of what he learned has changed just since then.

They successfully live in cities, they have adapted to city life. Just like many birds, rats, raccoons etc. (I mean that in the common use of adapted). Anywho, I’m no longer bored at work and have things to do. So agree to disagree I guess. It was nice arguing about something other than politics.

Our understanding of evolution has grown a lot since Darwin. Survival of the fittest isn’t a term that’s really used much anymore because it’s misleading.

Again, this had nothing to do with learning to fly and one nest of chicks is not going to affect NS. Just like if a fox ate a whole nest or if a human walked by and scared the fox off saving the ducklings. One incident is not going to affect NS.

Yes, sometimes the gene mutation results in an advantage. But genetic defects that are harmful are still passed down sometimes. I like your example though. Most people don't know what lactose intolerance really is.

I agree. And I think it's fair to say they may have stopped her from learning that (or maybe not, she might have realized things didn't go well) but that wasn't your original claim.

30.04.2025 19:53 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

That it's a widespread problem? Birds of all sorts sometimes choose a bad nesting sight. I see what you're saying that a bird that can't figure out an appropriate nesting sight will not reproduce effectively. But there's a lot more to consider, especially in a city.

30.04.2025 19:51 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

That's part of my point. This one group of ducklings is not going to affect NS. It would have to be widespread. The fact that ducks are still thriving shows most of them figure it out and will continue to no matter what happens to these ducklings.

30.04.2025 19:43 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It selects animals that reproduce successfully. That's it. If it were a planned out system there would be no genetic disorders because they would never be passed down but that's not how it works. This duck will likely reproduce again unless she dies before then. Her genes will still be passed down.
