I’m also currently doing teeth aligners in preparation for oral surgery, so I need to get through that and surgery/recovery before another major surgery. I also don’t know how I’ll pay for bottom surgery, so it could be years from now—almost certainly at least 2 years.

I distinguish the two as—object/body-part/situation/environment that really turns you on and may be required (fetish) and psychological dynamics mixed with corresponding behaviors/acts/scenes that are personally important but not inherently sexual (kink). Even this probably isn’t a full definition.

There are also “things I can’t do without in a sexual context” that aren’t fetishes: good communication, care, a good vibe, etc. Those things absolutely turn me on and are required for me to consent to and enjoy sex, but I don’t consider them fetishes.

And there are certain “kinks” I have that are so important to me that I know that sex will always be improved by incorporating it, and I may have trouble enjoying sex without, but that depends on all the other factors relevant in a sex/kink encounter.

Yeah, I’ve always heard “fetish” be defined as something you feel like you can’t do without in a sexual context, but there are things and situations that I definitely fetishize but may *need* to varying degrees (there are different levels of “fetish”)…
