All good. I’m mostly just hella curious why this is Discord’s fault and not the legislation they are protecting themself from or preparing for. I get the upset. But this all feels like misplaced blame, and no one seems to want to explain - especially when there is a big queer presence at discord.

Another way to look at this whole thing is that all of the NSFW artists are currently a liability to their business. Being fined or sued because they aren’t following a law that only applies to some people is a liability. Even if those users pay for Nitro, the net gain is most likely not there.

None of the US legislation being created or attacked has to do with kids in mind. It is the result of people pushing a puritanical viewpoint (while also participating in and being complicit with a huge pedophile ring)

I’m not saying any of this is *right*, but the hysteria that Discord is the aggressor here is just false/misplace blame. This is not Discord’s doing.

Section 230 currently protects platforms like discord from the sort of content you are posting on their platform. There is a republican push to remove these protections. Do you think discord should not be taking steps to protect themselves?

You may have good intentions, but should there not be any restrictions on the content you are making public? Is it fair to expect you to be able to host your artwork on a secure site that is age restricted before there’s a framework set up to make small businesses able to do so?

I certainly wouldn’t want that to happen with images that I post online - not sure it matters if the content is illustrated or photographic.

Do you feel alright with potential minors consuming your artwork? I know you can’t expect to stop all minors - I certainly was looking at porn while underage. But would it not be somewhat creepy for a kid to come up to you and say they loved your NSFW content?

It’s also worth pointing out you don’t have to do ANY of it unless you want to access NSFW content. If you’re not using discord for that you’ll never see any of this age verification.

What difference does it make if they do it prematurely or not. The laws are getting more strict. I legitimately think you’re assuming discord is being malicious before there’s evidence to support the idea.

Fair. I didn’t realize they promised the ids weren’t being stored, and just verified that. In your opinion, would there be a way to convince the public they’ve fixed the problem? They have to adhere to the laws that instigated this, so what would satisfy you? + a big majority won’t be uploading IDs

For you, is there a scenario where Discord could follow the laws they need to follow while also maintaining trust with their users? just saying they lie without proof they are lying seems irresponsible. What makes you think this way? because “they are corporation, therefore evil”? Genuinely curious.
