Despite the blank wood being cut too short, the thing is square. So instead of cutting a new board ill keep this one. This stuff doesn't grow on trees.
23.10.2025 02:02 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Lightly charred lumber and unburnt pine joined at 90 degrees with a bridle joint. A joint dividing the depth of the wood by 3, removing 2/3 from edges of one piece and the center 1/3 of the other.
A few charred boards of pine and one unburnt on a work bench
Doing something called should sugi ban. Mostly because I like how it looks but it also helps the wood. One piece was cut too short so just using it for test fitting.

14.10.2025 10:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Window with peeling paint
Gaps in a window sill
Peeling paint on the window frame
A gap between the upper and lower window sash
Did a bit more paint stripping before going to work. This likely all just needs to be replaced. I still haven't found a good diagram on how these windows work so I'll have to reverse engineer them. Will make a guide to help others with these windows.

11.10.2025 05:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 01920's pulley style windows. Both bottom panes are frosted and both top panes are covered with aluminum. The right window has window ac unit. The window sill and framing is covered in a heavy coat of white paint. The top right side frame is rotted and falling apart. A gap can be seen in the middle frame going to the outside.
I'm currently renting a house from the 1920s and it is falling apart. Planning on moving out but I'd like to use it as a learning tool. Currently working on repairing a pulley window in my room. Problem is I can't find a good diagram on how pulley windows are constructed. Someone please help me :P
