The world is always going to shit. That should have no effect on wether you take commissions or not.
And about the "horror stories", as long as you have decent work ethic and can deliver on the art you promise, and communicate with your customers, you will be fine.

In all seriousness, probably. I am trying with traps. But this can bring me problems with my neighbors, with whom I've already had problems because of my garden, and I don't want to risk them spreading to my house and spreading diseases.
I may stop gardening from now on -at least the vegetable and fruit part of it-
Found a rat on my garden that's feeding off my tomatoes and from my bird feeder.
I can deal with birds and bugs, but I draw the line at vermin.
Too bad, because I love growing tomatoes.
