Dr ‘Funmi Adewole Elliott will frame Tavaziva’s work in the context of the performing arts sector in the UK and internationally.

We are delighted to partner once again with Kauma Arts for this event.

Offering a response is Akosua Boakye, BEM, who will draw on her decades-long experience transforming lives through dance and cultural heritage – and her long-lasting collaboration with Tavaziva Dance.

With us will be theologian Robert Beckford, Professor of Climate and Social Justice at @uniwinchester.bsky.social, who will touch on the topics of individual and collective responsibility, climate, and reparations.

If you’ve been one of the many lucky audience members attending this production as it tours around the UK, you already know that this will be an incredibly interesting event.

This is a fantastic – and free – chance to delve into a bold exploration of the ‘seven deadly sins’ and the interplay of money, power, and religion.

I wrote about De Keersmaeker's staging of Rilke's The Cornet, including her engagement with its afterlife in World War II. About how her choreography explores its powerful imagery and form, and her evocation of the Nazi salute.

The importance of these grants—and the critical role they play in empowering individuals to pursue innovative research—has never been more apparent. Many dance researchers are facing challenges, with cuts to dance programs in Higher Education impacting their work.

Named after Ivor Guest (1929-2018), whose work on ballet history transformed the study of dance, these grants are open to all, with a special focus on encouraging applications from underrepresented groups.

Thanks to Ivor Guest’s bequest, we have supported 19 projects over four years.

The Society for Dance Research is dedicated to advancing the study, education, and appreciation of dance in all its forms. In line with our mission, we offer financial support to artist practitioners, and early-career and established researchers through our Ivor Guest Research Grants.
