just something to share my thoughts on fiction, writing, games, and other things

if there were a way to distill this feeling in a bottle, i'd douse myself in it like a perfume

it's this simple, nostalgic, faded twilight of passed time that i want to share in my own writing; even if just to capture a speck of that hidden place between memory

it's the memory of every childhood daydream of the kokiri woods flooding back to you when you play again 20 years later

it's the hiding spot in the woods behind your house that you rediscover as an adult and realize there are some old toys left behind that were waiting for you to come back

other instances, though slightly different, are when discovering ruins in elden ring and picking up vague clues as to what happened to this place

or wandering around the forbidden lands in shadow of the colossus and seeing remnants of what once was

usually it's a japanese town like in promise mascot agency or attack of the friday monsters, sometimes it's a drama like in hometown cha-cha-cha or a movie like suzume

but there's always a presence, a lingering nostalgia, of a place that has already passed its heyday yet persists

there's an atmosphere that permeates certain games, and other media, that can only be found in a derelict town with a small but closely knit community

run down buildings that used to be lively, older folks who remember how it used to be, abandoned cars and pothole pocked streets
