When I was researching my panel on KyoAni back in 2019 (and informally before that), it struck me how many things about the studio then ultimately went back to something he'd been doing or a judgement call he'd made three decades ago.

Hideaki Hatta passed away on February 16, 2026.

I'm at a loss of words other than that I'm extremely grateful of the work he did in this world. The amount of joy Kyoani brought into my life under his leadership is beyond measure.
