Norway’s Johannes Klaebo took home the gold in the Men’s 10km cross-country free. It was Klaebo’s eighth Olympic gold medal, which is now tied for the most in Winter Olympics history. He is set to compete in three more events and is still only 29-years-old

Xandra Velzeboer breaks her own world record in the women’s 500 meter speed skating semifinals

54-year-old Rich Ruohonen made his Olympic curling debut this morning. Ruohonen became the oldest U.S. winter Olympian in history.

Jordan Stolz with an Olympic record for the gold in the men’s 1K meter. He beat out the Netherlands’ Jennings de Boo, who also broke the previous record. Stolz’s time of 1 minute and 28.6 seconds finished half a second ahead of de Boo (largest margin of victory since 1984)

Two events this morning had medals by compatriots.
Franjo von Allmen won 🥇 in a second event, the Men’s ⛷️ Super-G, and fellow Swissman Marco Odermatt took 🥉.
In the Women’s individual biathlon, two French athletes finished at the top and a Bulgarian won third.
Five of seven total 🇨🇭medals are in ⛷️.

Ben Ogden takes home the silver for the U.S. in the cross country skiing sprint. Ogden became just the second man in U.S. history to medal in that event and first in half a century!

German Phillip Raimund won gold in the Men’s normal hill ski jump.

Medal update:
Men’s individual normal hill ski jump finished with four on the podium for the first time in Olympic history.

The top two finishers both took home medals in their first Olympics, and two athletes finished tied with a score of 266.0 for bronze.

After spreading through some of the Finnish women’s hockey team, the norovirus has now put Switzerland’s women’s hockey team in isolation.

“It often begins very suddenly,” said Dr. Bill Schaffner, an infectious disease expert. “(It) can produce two or three days of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.”

Another day another Olympic record. The Netherlands’ Jutta Leerdam sets a new Olympic record in the women’s 1K Meter speed skating with a time of 1 minute and 31.12 seconds.

Norway’s Sander Eitrem broke the speed skating 5K Meter record by over five seconds!

Czech Republic’s Metodej Jilek won the silver, but he also bested the previous Olympic record.

The 41-year old Vonn will reportedly compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics, with just a small caveat: she’s skiing on a “completely ruptured ACL”, according to NBC Olympics.

Team USA announced its Opening Ceremony flag bearers: speed skater Erin Jackson and bobsledder Frank Del Duca.

It’s the second straight Winter Olympics in which USA sends a bobsledder and a speed skater for a bookend ceremony.

American broadcaster and journalist Savanna Guthrie will not be going to the Winter Olympics hosted in Milan due to the continuous search of her mother.

The Crunch is very excited for Forward Wojciech Stachowiak to represent Germany at the Olympics. Even when the rink’s conditions were still up in the air, Sarosy was always going to let his forward make the trip.

“Not in 1,000 years would you get in the way of that dream,” Sarosy said

Although there have been a few concerns about the ice rink’s condition in Italy for the upcoming Winter Olympics, Syracuse Crunch COO Jim Sarosy was not overly concerned and told me:

“I don’t think the ice is any worse or better than any other Olympic year.”
