Ahmed Tigani joins as Commissioner of the Department of Buildings, bringing deep experience in housing, land use, and city operations. He currently serves as Acting Commissioner of HPD and previously helped streamline operations, accelerate project review, and strengthen safety and transparency at DOB. He'll ensure buildings are safe, construction moves efficiently, and the city delivers housing while protecting tenants and workers.

Louise Yeung joins as Chief Climate Officer, leading the Mayor's Office of Climate and Environmental Justice. She previously served as Chief Climate Officer in the NYC Comptroller's office, Director of Resiliency at DOT, and VP of Energy at NYC EDC, where she expanded renewable energy across city assets. She'll advance climate action and environmental justice across all city agencies.

Workers removed bricks and mortar from a load-bearing pier without proper shoring, severely weakening the nearly 100-year-old building. Other contributing factors included poor maintenance, a flawed engineering assessment, and original construction deficiencies.

⚠️NYC Severe #WeatherAdvisory ⚠️

The NYC metropolitan area is expecting severe weather, including heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 50 mph, starting Thursday and continuing Friday.

We're reminding all builders, contractors, crane operators, and property owners secure their sites and equipment!

DOB inspectors have been instructed not to issue violations if the construction tastes delicious enough.

All penalties are being waived for unpermitted gingerbread construction through Dec 31.
