Why I keep yelling about LIS workers eagerly jumping into AI. AI can't do our jobs, but it can replace us. The work won't get done well, patrons won't be satisfied, and it will eventually tank the whole library, but don't think that won't stop admin from trying to save a few bucks out of your wages.

On Owing $93,605 in Student Loans; or, A Profession Built on Debt - ACRLog I don't know the right metaphor to make you understand how this much debt physically feels. What it actually feels like is a pressure on my chest and shoulders, but maybe that's not evocative enough. ...

ACRLog has published 1,800 posts over twenty years but I guess I'm the first person to write a post about student debt?? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I wish a very happy β€œfuck you” to everyone who thought throwing trans people under the bus was going to stop these lunatics

Their goal has *always* been the eradication of the entire LGBTQ+ community, and they’re not gonna stop at Obergefell either

This is why we fight for *everyone*

"It’s true that there are physical feats that players in one league can accomplish that players in the other league simply cannot. For example, one league has players like DeWanna Bonner, who can carry and give birth to twins and return the next season to average 17.3 points and 7.2 rebounds a game, while the other league has multiple players like LeBron James, who can carry the ball."

that's funny, because AI can't crawl things that aren't digitized and online, it often can't tell the difference between primary and secondary sources, and it doesn't know how to parse outdated terms if they're not coming from a person's prompt for retrieval

I tested it in Primo Research Assistant, not surprising, I got similar results since Summon Research Assistant is sister product and both work the same by using LLM to generate Boolean search strategy. Gaza war shows no results. Tusla Race riots get a scary error message but does generate answer(1)

The Israelis want to force all remaining Gazans into concentration camps before forcing them out of the Gaza Strip, and those outside of the concentration camps they'll murder. This isn't hyperbole, this is just the straightforward plan of genocide that Israel is admitting to
