What made the comics great was atmosphere, and tension, and folklore. As fun as previous movies were, they were aiming for mass appeal. Hellboy was never a mass appeal idea. The beauty of Hellboy is how perfectly the story fits in the niche it belongs in.

And I don't say that cinematic impact bit as a knock.
Del Toro made some great blockbuster flicks with the IP.
Harbour gave a great performance on the next take.
But Hellboy was never blockbuster material to begin with.

Finally got around to watching Hellboy The Crooked Man.
Guillermo previously made some great movies about Hellboy. Then David Harbour gave a great performance as Hellboy.
This movie might not have the cinematic impact of any of those.
But as a comic reader, THIS IS HELLBOY.
