Well, conservatives have spent the last 40 years demonizing the left for this moment. So when America sees poets and nurses shot in the face in broad daylight, your sweet Christian grandma will say, "Those socialist paid protestors and domestic terrorists had it coming."

We're just surprised to see "normal" white people getting shot by Trump's secret police. Because we (middle-class white folk) have been oblivious to or ignoring this country's behavior for hundreds of years BECAUSE WE BENEFITTED FROM IT.

America has always operated under the assumption that God has designated some people as the boot and some people as the throat.

-Ask any non-white who is afraid to leave their home because they can be rounded up and sent to a detention center or deported to a country they've never seen regardless of their citizenship status.
-Ask the EU who listened to Stephen Miller say "If you can defend Greenland, you don't deserve it."

-Ask trans people whose personal autonomy is being stripped from them.
-Ask victims of sex trafficking who are being besmirched and ignored to protect the wealthy and powerful.

-Ask all the countries we have invaded, meddled in their elections, and practiced regime change.
-Ask black and brown people with disproportionate incarceration rates and income disparity.
-Ask gay people who only recently received some rights as straight people.

Don't believe me?
-Ask the Native Americans.
-Ask the Africans traded as slaves to build American infrastructure.
-Ask our forefathers about Manifest Destiny.
-Ask the Mexican that lived in Texas and California before we slaughtered them and took it.

One interesting element in this moment is the shock of many of my white friends that America could be like this.

What we need to recognize is that this is in our DNA. This is always who we were. The country was founded on the bedrock idea that some people should rule over others by divine right.

We all know Trump's new international board should he called "Bored of Peace."
