One tidbit from that: The U.S. hasn't used all available family preference immigration numbers since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. In FY 2024, the US used 215,959 out of 226,000 family preference immigrant visas. Meanwhile, over 3.5 million people are waiting in line for these visas.

Both of these designations date back to 1999, meaning Trump wants to strip legal status from people here legally who have had a background check every 18 months for the last 26 years.
