US citizen says he was jailed for three days after California immigration raid A U.S. citizen and Army veteran who works as a security guard at a California cannabis farm said on Wednesday that U.S. officials arrested him during an immigration raid last week and held him for three days without explanation.

As a result, about 97 of the 6K migrants encountered by Border Patrol in June were processed for either expedited removal, reinstatement of removal or voluntary return.

The return to Mexican and Central American arrivals started during the Biden administration but increased under the Trump administration. Because larger shares of migrants are from these countries with US repatriation agreements, it is easier to deport them quickly compared to other nationalities.

About 87% of the 6K migrants encountered by BP were from Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. Mexicans alone accounted for 68% of encounters and 88% of them were single adults. No other nationality had more than 200 encounters.

A record low number of migrants came to the US-Mexico border in June, dating back to 1960s levels. But it's equally as notable that Mexicans & Central Americans again represent the vast majority of arrivals--as they did prior to 2022.

The new Gallup chart just droppedβ€”showing the biggest back-and-forth reversal in US immigration opinion in recent history.

Trump 2.0 came in with a clear GOP edge on the issue, but half a year later, it has already vanished.

There are at least 900,000 undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles County alone.

After a full month of largescale immigration operations which sent extraordinary fear through whole communities and caused measurably drops in school and work attendance, DHS says it has arrested under 2,800 of them.

Counts - from the federal register notices on TPS terminations, excluding those who have obtained green cards:
Afghanistan: 8,100
Cameroon: 5,000
Haiti: 333,000
Honduras: 51,000
Nepal: 7,200
Nicaragua: 2,900

One tidbit from that: The U.S. hasn't used all available family preference immigration numbers since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. In FY 2024, the US used 215,959 out of 226,000 family preference immigrant visas. Meanwhile, over 3.5 million people are waiting in line for these visas.

The Trump administration has published federal register notices seeking to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for an estimated 755,000 beneficiaries, from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. Many of these terminations are under litigation. (1/2)

NEW: the Trump admin has moved to terminate TPS for Honduras and Nicaragua, covering over 50,000 people

Both of these designations date back to 1999, meaning Trump wants to strip legal status from people here legally who have had a background check every 18 months for the last 26 years.

Since January, irregular arrivals to the U.S.-Mexico border have hit lows not seen since the 1960s.

The real test will be whether these lows can be sustained absent key ingredients that led to them in the first place.
