Folks sometimes push back when I insist that Anita Loos was no feminist. But I can put her socializing with both Pat Nixon and a Koch in the early 60s...I love her, too, but I'm just saying....

Late in the day....Running "mommy camp" for the kiddos means that the #1000wordsofsummer were about 1,000 words of fast and shallow revision in the backyard. One kid's at a play date. The other at practice. Dog is chewing a stick. I'll take it.

#1000wordsofsummer Mostly feeling for L.A. Very distracted. Instead of new words, worked on revising last week's words about Anita's first Broadway play.
Also: Anita would hate what is happening in her beloved L.A. She abhorred violence and opposed anything she perceived as government overreach.

the funniest thing about the βice agents are human beings with familiesβ line is that there is no evidence to support the claim. oh theyβre real people? what are their names? as far as Iβm concerned theyβre the T-1000 until proven otherwise

Just caught up with @jordanrbrower.bsky.social 's article in @jcmsjournal.bsky.social about A24 as the antibildung studio (and so many other smart arguments). So good. Worth assigning to the many students are fans. Plus, the line "Korineβs bad taste is his own" made me laugh aloud!

I took yesterday off from #1,000wordsofsummer because it was Clementine's kindergarten graduation.
Today, I was back at it. I hired @carolinemalloyphd.bsky.social for a retreat/accountability day and revised 5,500 words of the book's first chapter. Moved from sh*tty first draft to first draft!
