Basic Banalities Concerning the January 31 Demonstration in Turin
On January 31, in response to the eviction of the historic Askatasuna social center, tens of thousands of people gathered in Turin to confront the police.
On January 31, 50,000 people gathered in Turin in response to the eviction of the historic Askatasuna social center. The scale of the ensuing confrontations with the police shocked Italian society.
While fascism is gaining power around the world, we are also seeing a rising desire to revolt.

Anarchists in the Movement against Police and White Supremacy
A timeline tracing anarchist contributions to anti-police uprisings from the Rodney King riots of 1992 to the George Floyd uprising in 2020.
Some described the movement against police and white supremacy that entered the public eye in May 2020 as a "failure" because it didn't win legislative changes.
But the Twin Cities have been able to resist ICE because of networks that developed then. Changing a broken system takes more than reform.

A Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Minneapolis is really a recognition of people power and it’s the first time a whole city has been put forward for the prize.

The Illegitimacy of Violence, the Violence of Legitimacy
What is violence? Who gets to define it? Does it have a place in the pursuit of liberation? This discussion never takes place on a level playing field.
What is violence?
Is it tossing a tear gas canister back to the mercenaries who shot it at you?
Is it blowing a whistle at bounty hunters who are trying to abduct someone?
Perhaps, rather than asking whether an action is "violent," we should ask—
Does it perpetrate oppression? Or interrupt it?

By bringing people together, we can create communities who look out for each other, cheer each other on, notice when someone needs help, and take action.

YouTube video by Thalia Zedek Band - Topic
Dance Me to the End of Love
Have you heard Thalia Zedek (Come, Live Skull etc.) covering Dance Me To The End Of Love? She’s got the perfect ragged voice for it and the keening fiddle is worn and woozy and glorious.

The hierarchy of argument/debate tactics is useful to be familiar with, I've found. If anyone throws something at you that's in the bottom 3 categories, you've got to assume they're either trying to distract from the indefensible or are putting their withering cognitive skills on full display.

Murdering a witness means that every single one of us who bears witness is also within that line of fire.
That is each of us here, right now.
Each person that has been abducted, disappeared, and murdered, is us. This has always been the case, regardless of citizenship, regardless of borders.

ALBUMS OF THE YEAR
1. Hallelujah the Hills - Deck.
Technically 4 albums but 1 concept: 52 tracks, one for each playing card in a deck. (plus 2 jokers). Astonishingly though, there's not a duff track to be found & in the second half of Hearts, the best unbroken 'side' of any album in years

One of the best parts of being a musician are the stories you collect. One time when Hallelujah the Hills Nicholas Ward was in Madison, Wisconsin, a nice lady offered for them to stay at her place. When they got there, the door opened and he was met with a different message. 😆

20 yrs ago I started a new band. We had rehearsed all fall & played our debut show at Great Scott, Allston, MA on 11/15/05. I hoped we'd play a few shows, maybe record an EP. 2 decades, 5 drummers, and 11 albums later, here we still is.

“Each Crueler Than the Last”
As protesters tear down statues and "experts" debate their merits, we review the deeds of Christopher Columbus and the tycoon who commissioned the statue of him in modern-day St. Louis.
The colonial violence that began with the arrival of Christopher Columbus has extended in a continuous pattern right up to today.
The tycoons who erected statues of Columbus did so as part of a ongoing project of erasing Indigenous history and subduing the working class.
