It’s only a human that can e.g. effectively deliver a lyric about sledging, because it’s only a human that can draw on their experience of the thrill of speeding down a hill, or feeling the biting cold of the snow, and that experience - authenticity - is crucial for producing good music imo.

While there is software out there that can produce audio, it’s not even close to being the same as human musicians. Humans are needed for nuance and authenticity.

ChatGPT can undoubtably create, but it needed help and was only as good as the info a human - me - gave it.

What’s lacking though, is artistry. AI might do a perfectly fine job of writing something (in partnership with a human) but music is supposed to be heard.

Did it just rearrange other existing ideas? Yes, but that’s what musicians do anyway - we take existing conventions and rearrange them in new ways.
Was it a substitute for human creativity? That’s where it gets interesting.

After a great deal of ‘Now can you add X’ (higher vocal harmony, rhythms, etc, etc), I ended up with something that fulfilled all my specific requirements and wasn’t bad at all (notwithstanding some lyric tweaks from me).

Using just the info it gave me, I was able to notate it.
