A boycott might have been a tad extreme, but how did we get to the point where con law largely dominates the academy?

03.08.2025 17:06 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0The entire article is fascinating! Particularly if you're interested in the gradual demise of Langdellian formalism and the initial emergence of realists such as Holmes, Frank, Llewellyn, Pound, Cohen, and the like.
Thomas C. Grey, Langdell's Orthodoxy, 45 U. Pitt. L. Rev. 1 (1983)
It's truly something to behold. And this passage below really drives home your point. The Harvard Law faculty threatened to boycott Chicago for daring to teach Con Law!

Oh dear. RIP to one of the great ones, as a scholar and as a person.
14.07.2025 17:16 β π 42 π 10 π¬ 0 π 2Thatβs the general sentiment. At least, AI seems to use em-dashes much more frequently than the general public, so the associationβs stuck quickly.
Itβs unfortunate, too, because I have yet to see an AI produce anything close to expert-level academic writing. But em-dashes still have the stigma.
One of the more trivial annoyances I have with AI is the widespread skepticism itβs brought to em-dashes.
I love em-dashes! Iβve used them liberally in my articles for a decade.
But now, I avoid them when writing, given their association. Not the worst consequence of AI, of course, but a bummer.
Very excited to hear about this symposium, featuring three fantastic colleagues!

Ha! Fortunately, itβs incredibly easy. I used Suno.com. Once you have a general sense of the song you want to make (lyrics, genre, tempo, etc), it gives you an amazing output. No vocal ability required, thank goodness.
27.05.2025 22:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Huge thanks to everyone who has offered incredible feedback on nunn.ai over these past few months! It's still very much a work in progress, but it's been exciting to watch nunn.ai grow as a free platform for democratizing access to evidence law. Try it out, and let me know what I can improve!
09.05.2025 01:48 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0The ESW participants, about 40 beautiful people, lined up on the front steps of Vanderbilt Law School.
The best day-and-a-half of the year is always the Evidence Summer Workshop! We had everything from formal modeling to queer theory to analytic philosophy to doctrinal analysis. Thanks to my co-organizers Ed Cheng, Julia Simon-Kerr, and @alexnunn.bsky.social.

Arrived to @vanderbilt.edu for tomorrowβs Evidence Summer Workshop. Excited to spend two days with this evidence community. Thanks to the program committee of Ed Cheng, @alexnunn.bsky.social, @maggiewittlin.bsky.social, and Julia Simon-Kerr for organizing, and to all others helping out! #ESW
04.05.2025 19:19 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I often return to this amusing anecdote from Thomas Grey. Amid the heyday of formalism, the Harvard faculty threatened to withhold support for the University of Chicago's fledgling law school because Chicago planned to offer courses on "unscientific" public law topics like . . . Constitutional Law.

Thanks so much to my amazing students at Texas A&M!
22.03.2025 15:30 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yep, I also found it to be a particularly noticeable issue. I had a T20 offer in early February, and only one journal responded to my expedite. I totally sympathize with journals having to juggle a million items at once, but I hope ghosting doesn't become (more of) a norm.

29.01.2025 20:05 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks so much! Definitely a work in progress, but I hope it can be a helpful tool.
09.01.2025 15:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Happy to chat more--the technical side is quite fun.
09.01.2025 15:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks so much! Youβre spot on; it is indeed a shim. To help optimize its outputs, though, Iβve curated a pool of evidence law materials, and Iβve then explored various means of engineering large-context models to draw exclusively from that vetted content. Itβs been a lot of trial and error!
09.01.2025 15:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yep, that's already in the works! I'm also happy to chat about any aspect of the development process. Reliable AI content in the legal space is pretty sparse at the moment, and so there's lots of room for innovation.
07.01.2025 03:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Look what my friend @alexnunn.bsky.social made! π
07.01.2025 02:49 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks for checking it out Alex. I share your broader concerns, and wigmore is designed to complementβnot replaceβtraditional legal research and learning. But I hope it can become one additional resource in the broader landscape of evidence law education. And it's very much a work in progress!
07.01.2025 03:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is crazy impressive!
07.01.2025 00:00 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks a ton! And it's very much a work in progress, so I'm particularly happy to hear about what needs improvement (I have a long to do list myself).
07.01.2025 03:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks so much, Maybell! I hope itβs helpful. Regardless, itβs been a fun project.
07.01.2025 02:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Of course, I'd love your input on making it better. What works? What doesn't? What features would you like to see? Your feedback will help shape its development. Try it out and let me know your thoughts!
06.01.2025 23:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've worked hard to ensure wigmore provides accurate, well-researched answers with proper citations. That said, like all AI tools, it has its limitations. But I hope it can be an effective resource for some; another tool in their lawyerly arsenal.
06.01.2025 23:22 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I built wigmore by myself over the past few months, during late-night coding sessions after my kids went to bed. The goal is straightforwardβmake evidence law more accessible and understandable for everyone.
