Adam lay on the shore, closed his eyes, and fell into a hazy dream. A piece of driftwood floated nearby, moving in and out with the waves, never reaching the safety of the solid land. A fishing boat passed close enough that he could hear voices. He sat up and wondered if he was still dreaming. No, he wasn’t. But something felt different, something had been removed from him, memories dragged away and dumped where he would never be able to find them again.
