Yeah, sorry, wasn’t trying to put words in your mouth. I should’ve phrased that as “consumers’ dumb irrational purchases of ever larger SUVs/trucks can’t be blamed on the government.”

I mean, the Liberals under Trudeau did put up a bunch of funding for transit projects. Not enough, certainly, but not nothing.
But also, even without mode switching, people have options that reduce their transport emissions. But they wanted bigger trucks instead.

Yeah, I really don’t think that the opposition to a consumer carbon tax and various other environmental policies is that they were insufficiently comprehensive.

Super bad for the economy and people’s livelihoods, but I think it’d be worthwhile to turn more Canadians against him and to fully politically isolate the minority of Canadians who support Trump. I want all conservative politicians to be electorally forced to repudiate MAGA and what they stand for.

If this doesn’t result in a deal, I honestly think it would be to Carney’s (and Canada’s) benefit to subtly try and provoke the kind of attacks from his administration that we were seeing in the spring.
