Theology 101: Demands of unquestioned loyalty and unconditional submission in leadership is the opposite of effective accountability and wise counsel. Leaders should demand questioning and subject themselves to pushback. This is the stuff of strong leadership.

The Auschwitz Memorial facebook account, reminding someone that the perpetrators of the Holocaust were not "monsters" -- and that's the scary part. They were people, ordinary people, normal people, who had "family joys and problems, favorite desserts or songs, hobbies or fears. They were people like us." They even thought of themselves as moral people. But they committed horrific atrocities because of an ideology they believed in, dehumanizing other people. And that's the warning, "For us all."

I needed to be reminded (again):

As Christians, in our disagreeing, we must never dismiss or dehumanize another, or we become ungodly. The trashing, demeaning, humiliating, and labeling of others is horrifying and grieves the heart of our God.

Christians aren’t called to wound their enemies. They’re called to treat the wounds of their enemies.

Christians need to stop trying to restore a golden age of the past that never really was…and instead start living in light of the golden age of the future that certainly will be.

Show me a pastor who boasts about not caring what anybody thinks, and I’ll show you a pastor who’s beyond the reach of meaningful accountability.

Remember our Christian brothers and sisters in Sudan and South Sudan who have suffered terribly for their faith these past few decades. May peace be brought to all who live in those troubled lands. ❤️
