Bravo to Dr David Eckel for completing his PhD at Swinburne University of Technology!! It was an honour to co-supervise his research alongside Prof Glen Bates and A/Prof Steve Theiler. His research stretched my thinking in wonderfully unexpected ways, and I am grateful for all he has taught me.

SO PROUD of Dr Inge Gnatt, who I had the privilege of co-supervising w/Prof Maja Nedeljkovic & A/Prof Andrea Phillipou. She officially completed her PhD this week! Her research has potential to improve treatment for people with co-occurring #EatingDisorders and #PTSD symptoms.

This study has implications for destigmatising lived experiences of #NSSI and other mental health difficulties among psychologists. It also has implications for #psychology training & clinical supervision, including for considering the ways in which lived experiences can enrich therapeutic practice.

Last week, at #QRMH10 in Budapest, I had the privilege to present a study on the professional experiences of 90 psychologists in Australia w/histories of nonsuicidal self-injury (#NSSI).

This important study was led by Sam Dax during her clinical #psychology masters research at #Swinburne.

Dissociation is a common trauma response among many who seek therapy, but only one in five psychologists can accurately identify symptoms New Swinburne research has found that four in five Australian psychologists have gaps in their knowledge on dissociation and cannot accurately identify dissociation symptoms.

Not surprisingly, we found psychologists have gaps in knowledge of dissociation. More attention to this aspect of training is needed.

This research was led by an incredible masters student, #NiclésBestel.

Shame and Emotion Dysregulation as Pathways to Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms Among Women with a History of Interpersonal Trauma - published in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence.

Interventions that are effective at reducing emotion dysregulation & characterological & bodily shame, such as compassion & acceptance-based approaches, may complement evidence-based PTSD interventions when working with women who have survived interpersonal trauma.

Serial parallel mediation model predicting PTSD symptoms from interpersonal trauma, emotion dysregulation, and facets of shame. Note. N = 380.

Our model explained 59% of the variation in PTSD symptoms, indicating the relevance of both emotion dysregulation and shame in the genesis of PTSD symptoms among women interpersonal trauma survivors.

I'm a journal Associate Editor & after sending 16(!) invitations, I finally secured Reviewer 2 for a paper!

It's a STRUGGLE to find reviewers these days (folx accept/decline for many good reasons) & I never want papers held up in the review process. So much time, heart & labor goes into each paper.

May I never stop feeling the electric zing of excitement that washes over me when I meet with a student whose zest for learning & curiosity are palpable. It is a privilege to be a part of a student's educational experience & to learn alongside them.
