ICE & CBP have killed several people over the last year and the only names to enter the popular consciousness are the names of the white Americans they have killed. We need to attend to what structures that, both externally & internally.

And the same outraged cops? Defended the killers amongst them

micromorph: a Python toolkit for measurement of microbial morphology Detection of morphological phenotypes from light microscopy is a key part of microbiology. Despite advances in automated morphological analysis, accurate measurements still often require significant u...

Happy to finally share micromorph with everyone!
If you are interested in performing morphological measurements of bacteria, and like using Python and Napari then this is for you!

You can read about it in our preprint, and find the code on our Github repo, PyPi or directly from the napari hub!

We now have a working proof-of-concept implementation of the mim-enabled fastq parser in Rust. It uses needletail for the actual parsing and is *already* ~30% faster than the C++ implementation! Very excited about where this will go! cc @curiouscoding.nl

getting cozy with the possibility of failure and your own resilience through it will only be freeing. At least that is my two cents.

..your knowledge of a question, remember that all (or most) of your committee do want you to succeed. It helps me to think of the worst case. Here, worst case is failure. There is likely another chance. If failure happens again, it will end a chapter but by no means ends any chance of working in...

It's important to take time to zoom out and separate from the intense nerves. Reflect on the excitement for the projects you're working on, hype yourself up that you have learned a lot and you aren't the same as when you started, make yourself okay with admitting when you've reached the end of..

Are you a postdoc or 4-5th year grad student working on any problem in environmental microbiology and are interested in giving a virtual seminar (via zoom) on your hard work to a crowd of interested researchers at Montana State's Thermal Biology Institute in spring? Email/DM me!

So happy to announce our new preprint, β€œA geothermal amoeba sets a new upper temperature limit for eukaryotes.” We cultured a novel amoeba from Lassen Volcanic NP (CA, USA) that divides at 63Β°C (145Β°F) πŸ”₯ - a new record for euk growth!

We still can’t predict much of anything in biology Biology is hard. Yes, even for AI.

Biology is much more complicated than most non-biologists can imagine. And AI is not going to change this anytime soon.
