Yep, one of the things I enjoy the most is the narrative of the game. It’s really like you are writing a little story on the board each time you play

Bit of both for me - I’d like to know a bit more of the openings and the theory so I can play better, but not currently investing my time to do anything about it. I’m just allowing myself to get frustrated when I lose.

The truth is I’m just a bit rubbish at chess and have to live with that.

It does apply to this match - was a rapid. I can’t do blitz at all. Most my games though are 3 to 14 days a move, where I do play better.

My 13 yo is quite strong and always want to play rapids (not online) I get swiped off the board every time. Proud of him but frustrating.

I started play chess because it was a way to spend time with my grandfather. Today I lost in 9 moves to a player ranked lower than me, and my ranking on chess.com is already low. I have to remind myself why I started playing because that makes me want to give up. I’m just terrible at this game.

Tonight I had the realisation that I would never beat my son again in chess. I told him so, and felt a surge of pride and affection for him. I remember when I beat my own dad at tennis, and realised I would never lose to him again. He was confused and furious. Still love him though.

Athletics day today. I was manning the javelin. Next to me, high jump. Y10 boy jumps, missed the mattress and dislocated his shoulder. lot of pain. I went to him, ‘Seb, you ok?!!!!!?’
‘Sir, argh aaaaahrgh. You had a hair cut this weekend’
