Education is quite literally rebellion. If we don’t continue to train ourselves to do things that machines are imitating admirably, not only will we be replaced, we will be taken out of the broader conversation entirely when it comes to politics, art etc. Those things shouldn’t be run by elites.

this is the first pride month i have gotten to actually enjoy since coming out of the closet in 2020 and i just want to say:

To believe in a free Palestine, which will come in one shape or another, is to be alright with saying we are deeply, inherently flawed — wrong, evil, whatever you’d like to call it. Period. But to accept it is not a death sentence. There is a life beyond that acceptance. Germany showed us that.

Any hope we might have is predicated on the prolonged suffering of our enemies (Palestine) and the success of our allies (Israel). That’s partly why so many leftists say “Free Palestine” with such clear hesitation. The status quo keeps the NYT on our doorstep and $16 vegan ice cream in our freezers

And it is stronger than what we — the West, on the side of the oppressor (even if in a cowardly hand-wringing way) — have. Because we only have our capital, and it will run out. I think we know that, and the stronger we turn to Americana and xenophobia and “pride” the more we reveal we know it

They know this horror will stop because it must stop. That is true. How shameful for the rest of us in the West to shake our heads (as we’ve been doing this whole time) and say it’s a hopeless conflict. There is always hope! It is the one thing the oppressed have.

I believe in that with what Isabella Hammad calls the “acutely Palestinian” frame of mind that is “pessoptimism”, a term coined by Emile Habibi. Pessimism of the intellect, optimism of the will. That seems about the most we can hope for, as humans. I believe that Palestinians show us the way in this

To practice both blindly, that we might eventually regain — or build for the first time — a real concept of love. For the earth and for each other. Perhaps love has never existed at a universal scale. But maybe with faith and hope it can./
