The space and ground teams will attempt to use the recently reinstalled HamTV device. If successful, this will be a step in recommissioning the HamTV system, repaired after a 2018 failure. There's a testcard generator which the ARISS team are currently pushing through final approvals before it gets plugged in. (Which also functions as a HDMI->NTSC converter to allow use of the new cameras on the station.)

Ciaran, M0XTD (an ARISS International Operations Scheduling Coordinator) is calling a meeting of interested parties who can establish, or are wanting to establish, a HamTV Ground Station in their geographical area. Meeting scheduled for Thursday August 28th at 1900UTC via Zoom. If you are interested in joining the meeting, please send an email to hamtvops@ariss-i.org with your details (name, callsign, id on Discord, location and status of any ground station you may have) and Ciaran will forward details of the meeting to you. Teams are continuing to work to schedule an end-to-end video test originating from the ISS.

The image is a notice about a planned outage for HamTV, which will go off-line to support other payload operations on the International Space Station this week. The expected outage schedule is:Power Off: Monday, 18-August, 14:15 UTC (10:15 AM ET) Power On: Wednesday, 20-August, 12:35 UTC (8:35 AM ET) The image also includes a 2015 NASA photo of Samantha Cristoforetti (IZ0UDF) with the ARISS HamTV Transmitter on the ISS.

HamTV testers, the transmissions will go off-line for the first part of the upcoming week. See the graphic for timing.

No timing for a full video test yet, you know we'll share as soon as we know.

When will HamTV start transmitting video? We expect to schedule a end-to-end video test after Crew 11 gets settled aboard the ISS. When will HamTV start to be used for educational contacts? That will be dependent on the testing mentioned above. Can an SDR device be used? The software used with SDR devices has developed significantly since the first use of HamTV in 2014. We look forward to hams experimenting with this and seeing the results. Will HamTV output video that can be decoded with the Icom IC-905? No, the IC-905 does not currently support decoding digital video. The BATC site talks about receivers not available in my part of the world. Are there alternative parts lists? As we get more information on devices, we’ll work with the BATC and our other teams to publish more info.

HamTV Acquisition of Signal (AOS) reports!

Thanks to several European hams for confirming the HamTV carrier transmissions earlier today.
Several North American passes upcoming, so we'll watch for those reports too.

GNU Radio is looking for a contractor to either port the existing Qt based GNU Radio Companion application to the web (running proof of concept exists), or to develop a new frontend capable of creating flowgraphs, executing the resulting program, and displaying the UI in the web.

On the occasion of the @unesco.org International Day of Light, we created a 'light painting' using the Dwingeloo Telescope by mounting a light bulb at the focus for half an hour. #lightday2025 @idlofficial.bsky.social

Updating the operating system of the server switched off old insecure TLS ciphers - which broke some windows software using the FFT Websocket connection (QuickTune, LiveTune, OpenTuner, etc.)

This has now been resolved by re-enabling the old TLSv1.0/1.1 ciphers. (yay legacy software!)

Migration complete, thanks all for your patience.

Thanks to Jamie's Computers for supplying the new compact and power-efficient PC, it's now notably quieter in the Goonhilly shack!
