A couple weeks ago, we began our Month of Racial Healing with events that allow our staff to step back, restore our energy, and deepen our connections. When we invest in our collective well-being, we strengthen our ability to show up for the survivors and communities we serve every day.

No matter the circumstances in which a child is separated from their parents, the trauma manifests in powerful ways that affect their development and a parent's well-being. These reactions are not "bad behavior"—they are natural responses to systems that often choose surveillance over support.

We're just past the holidays, and the Trump administration is cruelly trying to withhold over $10 billion in funding for childcare and social services.

The Trump Admin is threatening to freeze funds used for childcare, shelter and cash assistance. NYC expects $2.5B in this years budget from the very programs they’re threatening.

The CREEP Act (A3226/S3394) is a bill in New York state that would ensure every New Yorker—regardless of their relationship to the person stalking them—has a clear and accessible path to security.

Currently, New York is one of only seven states that doesn't offer a civil order of protection for every stalking survivor. This means neighbors, coworkers, or strangers can often harass others without an immediate path to civil safety.

Press statement from Safe Horizon, the nation’s largest agency serving domestic violence survivors, saying: “The White House’s decision to freeze critically important federal funding—including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)—to New York and several other states will result in untold numbers of families, children, victims, and survivors being left without access to safety and care. In New York, TANF not only provides a crucial lifeline to victims and survivors on public assistance but is also the primary funding source for the network of emergency domestic violence shelters across the state. Without this funding, many, if not all, of these shelters will be forced to close their doors, leaving survivors and their families at heightened risk of continued violence and homelessness.

Trump’s decision to cut off all TANF money to New York will close domestic violence shelters

The federal TANF freeze is a direct threat to NYC’s domestic violence shelters as well. Without this funding, life-saving doors will close for survivors and children. We need our city and state leadership to stand with us and demand a reversal.
