"Gen13" was a fun book all around! Especially in an era that was leaning towards grim-and-gritty

Where are my #90sComics / #ImageComics pals at? I'm talking about the #Gen13 1997 Annual from #WildStorm this week on my blog
Art by Steve Dillon, Joe Chiodo, Martin Jimenez, and Rob Robbins and written by... that other guy...

For me, a week-ish
Had it done early Monday morning, on some heavy drugs that day and Tuesday. Slept like a champ still on Wednesday, despite already trying to ween myself off the pain killers. Thursday & Friday, tired but not really sore. Feeling normal by Saturday afternoon
Same issue w/ the deviated septum! No right nostril! Thankfully my insurance covered everything w/o issue... for once... yay?
Getting back a closed nostril, for real, amazing! Good luck, sir!
Hey! Had a fucked nose too! Got it all fixed up, made my life immensely better
To be fair, I'd lived in Los Angeles for a bit, and it was time I got some work done
The time has come to talk about the first 4 issues of #Gen13Bootleg from #WildStorm/ #ImageComics a spin off of one of the best #90sComics ever (I'll admit my bias, I love the main #Gen13 #comics)

Two years ago I publicly posted "Ska bands using AI generated art depresses me" and the pushback I got, for even such a milquetoast opinion, was still surprising
I still shake my head

Lol! We did! I also used audio of my cats in that episode!
Cats are awesome!
Who's playing horns on those Goldfinger songs?

Dane, you're always a peach, thank you sir!
Sorry I made Anthony and Matt ask you about Col. Jackson Dane of Team 7 and Wetworks / WildStorm & DC Comics fame, on On the Upbeat
Like, for real, HUGE thanks, it means a lot that I'm even on the map or fondly remembered by the ska scene at all
It's always been a pleasure, and I kinda want back in cuz I want to have more good times and not have my time in the scene end on a sour note
I'm pretty selfish like that
Also, being able to talk w/ you about the new @flyingraccoonsuit.bsky.social single, to Alex about @yourpomps.bsky.social, the cats in @thenewlimits.bsky.social, Scott on Stretsch Armstronng's return and the boys over at @enjoyyrself.bsky.social really helped a lot in my healing journey
Thanks!
It's hard when I see 4 of these folks still held up in high esteem by the greater ska community
Of course the 5th one was actually for real scary, which dims the light on the other 4, but they were already the reason I was stepping back
This was removed from another platform for being too politically charged.
But it's brilliant, and very true. Especially for these times.
RJ all up on his #90sComics obsession again

Nice! Between you and @mlehoux.bsky.social I have a nice little batch to dig into during tomorrow's work-from-home day!
I thank you both!
Totally missed that! Thanks!
And now yr just proving @commonsensekid.co.uk 's point... I hate when he's right!
Mentally, never better!
Personally, just as good!Physically... look, I know I need to jump back on that bike...
Not saying the I haven't found other/older pursuits that fill that free time & camaraderie, but its... different... I miss the wider ska fam
Lol, very true! It is rather hard to argue, especially coming from me these last few years... old faves and friend's bands
Still all great, but not really stretching my tastes much
Amazing!

After 35+ years of #ska fandom, only 5 bad actors sucked the joy out of the greater scene for me
I feel I've missed out on 2 years of music that I wasn't personally connected to...
So greater ska community, I timidly ask... what have I missed?
Even past loves that I enjoyed as art for art's sake started to fall flat w/o a personal connection
I started to peek out a bit this last year, and enjoyed it, even if my public ska evangelization fell flat/on deaf ears
While in the grand scheme of things, this feels rather unimportant, but my ego makes it important enough to drop it into the void....
But since early 2024 it has been hard for me to connect to the greater #ska scene, especially bands I don't have a personal connection with
Good news from #Bandcamp!
AI no longer allowed on the platform. We do have to report it for review, so unleash yr inner gatekeeper and go for it
Bandcamp Friday returns on Feb 6th! So save those pennies and support the musicians!
