Sad news. Greens down 2%.
Better news. It's a mistake and we're actually up 2%.
Best news. Membership is still leaping up every single day.

I think they're banking on inequality rising faster than sea levels...
Or to mix metaphors from the lockdowns "we're all in the same storm, we're not all in the same boat"
We cannot trust oil executives to do the right thing.
Reform suffer drop in polls following conference whilst greens have polanksi bounce.
LETS GO!!!!

The homes that developers are building are out of reach of those that need them.
We the homes that those impacted by the housing crisis need.
We pay for it with a wealth tax on the super-rich. Many of them have contributed to and profited from this crisis.
greenparty.org.uk/about/our-ma...
Build more homes? Land is inelastic, meaning you can't easily make more because the value went up (reclaiming land from the sea is finite and unsustainable)
Demand isn't just for people to live in them. They are also investment vehicles for the wealthy
www.economist.com/britain/2024...
House prices quadrupled whilst earnings only doubled.
Developers will say that it is because of planning laws.
Economists will tell you that land prices are more likely responsible (seeing as they have increased at an almost identical rate to house prices).
It's very easy to scapegoat a small minority to present an easy solution to a complex problem. But it's also very easy to debunk the nonsense.
Housing affordability has worsened for decades. The slight reduction since the pandemic still sees house prices over 7x higher than earnings.
What's causing the housing crisis in the UK?
π€ Reform think it's the 40k people that arrived by irregular means.
π‘ Over 300k households presented as homeless in each of the last 2 years.
ποΈThere are 1.5 million vacant or unoccupied dwellings in the UK.
π°190k properties in the UK are foreign owned
Congratulations @zackpolanski.bsky.social on your election as Leader!
Thank you Ellie & Adrian.
This is not how you run a Council:

Been a very tiring and depressing week at Solihull Council. The psychodrama of the Conservative group has done serious harm to the reputation of the authority.
There are laws and guidance on how things operate FOR GOOD REASON!
Itβs to protect the effective functioning of local government.
These are not normal times. It's all the more important that democratic institutions maintain reasonable and lawful standards in them.
Whether Solihull Conservatives back down on this remains to be seen.
You can watch from 5:30pm here: solihull.public-i.tv/core/portal/...
A very controversial meeting of Council this evening.
An unprecedented 6 motions being considered. 3 of them relate to a lack of democratic norms on the Council, proposed by the Green Group, Lib Dems, and Independents.
A Conservative motion attempts to remove independent chairs of scrutiny!
I just voted against proscribing Palestine Action, a civil disobedience group, as a terrorist organisation. But I'm furious that in doing so, the government forced me and others to vote against proscribing two other clearly terrorist groups. Cynical and dangerous from govt.

Itβs very shameful the Labour MP for Birkenhead is one of the 10 Labour MPs sponsoring the PIP Bill.
REAL HOPE. REAL CHANGE. WE NEED A MAXIMUM WORKING TEMPERATURE Green Party Promoted by Chris Williams on behalf of The Green Party, both at PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQ
As another heatwave hits the UK, the UK Green Building Council have said the UKβs schools, care homes and offices are not equipped for the effects of global heating.
We need a maximum working temperature and urgent adaptation to protect people from the effects of extreme heat.
Bluesky is dying?!
Really?

Of course.
21.05.2025 13:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Screenshot of an article in The Guardian that reads: Our Β£5bn disability benefits cuts will stop welfare state collapsing, says Kendall. Red lines are on top of the text to cross bits out and the amends now read: Our Β£7bn disability benefits cut will drive 3.2m into deeper hardship.
βοΈ Cutting disability support wonβt help people back into work.
And it wonβt help people who are already working.
Shockingly, cuts could drive 3.2 MILLION people deeper into hardship.
Doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.
So why are Solihull Conservatives cutting funding and expecting services to improve?
They would rather call the cuts βservice transformationβ. Orwell would be proud.

Such sad news that Stroud icon and Green luminary John Marjoram died this morning
He was driven by his love for other people and the planet and his desire for peace
His grasp of political strategy was extraordinary and laid the groundwork for the success we're now seeing as Greens

7. Democratic bodies should represent the people they serve. Positions should not be gifted on loyalty individuals.
Whether you call it nepotism or cronyism, it is never a hallmark of good governance.
As Valluvar describes this, it will lead you to "endless follies".
No doubt, more to follow

6. It is a longstanding issue with the controlling group, acting as an outlier in the West Midlands. There has been an attitude that 54% of Councillors should decide 100% of the positions.
If they were selecting for competence and experience I would keep quiet, but it is evidently not the case.
5. When I pointed out that a further Conservative appointment was not only unsuitable, but represented a serious reputational risk to the Council and the outside organisation I was asked if I was making a threat.
I explained that I was not and why it was unreasonable to put them forward.
4. They argued that it wasn't fair for the dignitaries to watch the votes. Both myself and Cllr Adeyemo said that it was a democratic process. He added that the administration have criticised opposition members for not putting themselves forward for outside bodies.

It was a further 15 minutes before they left the meeting.
