He turns and runs and then he stops, throwing up. Eventually he turns back. He reaches down and hopelessly feels for a pulse, but there’s none. Eventually he starts to move them, so at least they’re lying on their backs. Then he notices most of them are dirtied with blood and mud and (22)

There are bodies there, some belonging to the careers they first ran into and some people he doesn’t recognize. He doesn’t know what to do. Theoretically he should be happy, or grateful, that he’s alive. But he feels like something in him as been crushed and tossed away. He has to step back (21)

he crawls back on land, still injured, and looks for his friends. He first tries to stay quiet but the more he wanders the more he realizes it’s strangely silent. Eventually he just starts panicking and calling out for them until he stumbles to where the snakes were in the beginning. (20)

The three of them get separated in the chaos. And as the storm picks up it’s hard to see through the rain. He just uses instinct to run from the fire but trips and tumbles. Out of options and, skilled at swimming, he dives into the lagoon, staying safe in the water. When the storm passes (19)

They have to fight a few more times as Lawrence gets cut in his side. Thanks to his sponsors they’ve been able to get medicine and water but things are getting expensive. And just when he’s trying to recover the game makers send a thunderstorm that light a part of the jungle on fire (18)

He has to nick part of his skin off to prevent the infection from spreading and tightens it with a gauze. They keep moving, and Sawyer uses her knowledge on each of the tributes and their skills to hide from them. The worst part is the heat. Bugs fly at them and it’s hard to find food or water. (17)

Lawrence spears a district two tribute in the throat before the three of them climb up the trees to the canopy. From there; they flee, but Cecil gets a huge gash across her face and Lawrence’s ankle is gashed by a snake. (16)

They meet again in the arena (a jungle with a lagoon) and call for a temporary truce. Things are going as smoothly as they possibly can, as they don’t run into anyone else, until they stumble upon the career pack. After combat the capital unleashes a swarm of mutts (in the form of snakes) (15)

He meets a couple of the other tributes, a district 3 girl named Sawyer and a district 1 “boy” (girl) named Cecil. Sawyer is brilliant, and she somehow has information/secrets on all the other tributes. Cecil is quiet but proficient in combat and knowledgeable in survival. (14)

He spends his money, and when things get more expensive he steals money from his dad and his investors. When they find out he’s shut in his room and forbidden to go out, but he finds other ways to support Lawrence in the arena. Law in the mean time is trying to make allies (13)

taking away his humanity, the person that’s so beloved in district 4 for his kindness, and making him a piece of meat set to kill others. He starts off by doing the only thing he knows how, send money through the games as a sponsor. It’s not much but he’s too in the dark to know much else (12)

I mean he KNOWS Lawrence isn’t really like that and they’re just molding an image of him to use but it makes him so angry. For the first time in his life he’s on the other side. And he’s angry at the capital for this whole operation and angry at Lawrence and his prep team for (11)

Him and his mentor decide to go with a route that plays him off like a career; attractive and powerful. He’s tall and golden and beautiful and he gets sponsors and a score of 10 and everyone thinks he might have a chance. But Rory watches from 4, horrified (10)

He spends the majority of the train ride coming to terms with the fact that he is very likely to die, especially because he’s not a career. But he has a few things going for him. For 1 he’s athletic and proficient with netting and fishing, and he’s also charming enough to win sponsors over. (9)

And I cannot stress how much Lawrence volunteering is NOT romantic. Sure it’s an act of blind love and devotion. But it stems from a twisted sense of desperation instilled upon by institutional fear that makes Lawrence think, “the only way I can save his life is to end my own” (7?8?)

But it’s no use. And he leaves, with only 10 minutes to say goodbye. And Rory, in his emotional state, spends most of it yelling at him and then he’s ripped away. (This is basically a parallel of what happened in canon) And now Lawrence is getting ready for the games and Rory has to live with it (7)

And there’s nothing, absolutely nothing, he can do about it. He knows someone like Lawrence is too gentle, too good, and therefore he has to die in a place like this. He’s almost afraid that Lawrence is too naive to understand what he just did And he begs and cries and screams at him not to go. (6)

He gets REAPED. It comes as a shock to everyone and he honestly didn’t even process he could be reaped. AND THEN. while everyone’s reeling. Lawrence volunteers FOR HIM. And no it’s not some whirling act of romance (they’re not even tgth) it’s an act of selflessness that fucking horrifies Rory. (5)

As the date draws closer he gets more and more anxiety. He and Lawrence talk/joke about running away together and honestly he’d do anything to avoid competing. But also, his father and brother are breathing down his neck. He decides, eventually, with Lawrence, that he’s not going to do it. UNTIL (4)

Things would kick off after Samson (Rory’s twin brother) volunteers and wins the last games and Rory feels increased pressure to volunteer this year. However he feels physically sick at the idea of competing DESPITE training years to do so and he doesn’t want to go. (3)

However, Rory’s father would probably be the mayor and he’d definitely be a career. Lawrence on the other hand, would come from the impoverished part of 4. They’d meet when Lawrence gets a job working at one of the tribute training centers and become friends. (2)

Okay so I’ve been thinking about FRWAD hunger games au cause I recently rewatched the series. I think this would be a pre-74 panem alternate universe. Lawrence and Rory would both be from district 4 (the culture there is most similar to their current lives) (1)

So tbh I’m not really sure what to use bluesky/twitter for. But since I have a micro-audience on here I’ve decided to use it as a ramble dump ground for my characters/their lore. Plus I’m betting on nobody seeing this anyway so might as well get these thoughts out. there.
