Well that’s a depressing way to think about something pretty joyful.

The purpose of museums isn’t only to display and educate but to conserve and research.

I wish theater owners were interviewed in this piece. I wonder if they need to reduce their prices to reduce the production cost (and hence cut into their own profits) to keep the whole enterprise going. Costs aren’t all set in stone is my point.

Are the theater owners earning a nice profit in the current scenario? If they are profitable, I wonder if they will need to bring down their rental prices so shows can produce. No one profits if there are no shows.

Is the NYTimes getting bolder? In the past few days their stories and headlines are more honest about what’s happening. (Tho there are exceptions!!)

What would accountability for this look like if we get an administration in office that would be interested in pursuing accountability? Fines? Jail?

This doesn’t fall under whistleblower protections, I assume?

Don’t they have to have a legitimate and specific reason to approach someone in this way?

I understand and respect and think it’s appropriate that you stay neutral but I think stating that the White House has no authority in this area is important in these kinds of articles.

I don’t think that’s sufficient to describe the clear overreach and attempts at intimidation that’s happening.

Exactly right - the White House has no authority over what goes in the museum. This is just a guy’s opinion.

Why doesn’t your article point out that the White House has no authority to say what goes in the Smithsonian?

Isn’t there a law that government officials can’t knowingly make decisions that harm Americans? If not, we really need one.

I’d like to see Chief Justice Roberts lead the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian to push back on this.

Maybe the Smithsonian will be the issue that Chief Justice Roberts actually pushes back on Trump Administration about.

By what authority are they claiming they can do this?
