Today marks 80 years since the signing of the #UNCharter.

In our increasingly fractured world, we must renew the vision of the Charter and encourage global leaders to recommit to and strengthen international cooperation for the sake of "We the peoples."

Given the rapid rate of developments in the Middle East, a number of #UNSC members have asked the drafters of this draft res to put the negotiations on a temporary hold. #Iran #Israel

It is reported that the parliament of Iran has approved the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The final decision will allegedly be made by security authorities.

Today at 12:30 pm, the #UNSC will convene to adopt a PRST on #Syria following the recent flare up of sectarian violence and killing of #Alawites in #Latakia and elsewhere along the coast. Penholders for this file are the US and RF.

At meeting on EU, Russian PR complained that as no one had asked EU rep questions, she shouldn't have been given floor at meeting's end, that SC briefings not supposed to be interactive dialogues.
But in 2022 RF argued for briefer to speak at meeting's end who hadn't been asked questions.

No surprises here: the Kremlin approves of the US pausing military aid to Ukraine. When I ask Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov for his reaction, he says: “If it’s true, it’s a decision which could really push the Kyiv regime to a peace process.”
