NEW: We've got a new sales figure for...Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories?

In an effort to block someone's attempt to trademark "Vice City Subs", Take Two's lawyers said VCS sold over 7 million copies since launch. (Prior disclosed number was 4.5m)

A "little" patch I worked on that alignes the experience to modern PC gaming.
Enjoy the light and shodow in HDR!

I'd love to hear what you think of the new alternative camera mode.

The AmmuNation vendor had over a dozen lines recorded for this occurrence, and they were assigned to an unused speech context. Same applies to barbers and the tattoo artists!

Gang wars in San Andreas were supposed to have CJ cheer victory in certain districts, calling them by name. The code had multiple issues:
- CJ voice lines were not set up
- The game tried to play them on the player's gang
- The district check was broken

SP now restores those!

Also a lot more breathing noises considering the one on the devkit is seemingly the uncut-uncleanedup-raw recording during performance capture.

From the same PS3 dev kit that was found quite a few years ago is another cutscene that was tweaked

A good number of lines were trimmed from the Bury the Hatchet graveyard cutscene (in my opinion, for the better)

Pretty interesting:

This is a travesty and frankly bullshit. These guys are so talented but people like Jim Ryan, presumably, or foolish investors perhaps just had to chase that awful GAAS trend.

I had to stop using it for this reason. It's not just normal porn either, it's like animated animals with human features.

Despite using "show less like this" A LOT, it still appears so I just stopped using the feed.

I'm only liking gaming stuff so no idea honestly.

Not the best first time experience - I FINALLY upgraded to Windows 11 tonight and the very first thing I notice, King of the Road's intro movies no longer play. Turns out, Indeo Video 5 codec is no longer shipped on Win11, so the game cannot decode them. Another bug to the pile.

Red Dead Redemption 2 includes such a great quantity of gore that in order to ship in japan, they made every asset with "jibbly" bits have two versions, one censored & one uncensored in a file called "rowpack" (Rest Of World) that overrides them.
Here's some of the tamer examples:

I do believe it's mostly bots thankfully. I started to link my Bluesky on my YouTube videos instead of Twitter and the amount of "hate" comments I get for just having a Bluesky link is bizarre too. I'm almost positive these are bots as well try to deter people from using an open platform.

Update: This is happening because of the Modern Patch: they don't know how to use Detours properly, and instead reimplemented entire functions, introducing a bug in one of them. Ten times the effort for no benefit, only to introduce new bugs...

i couldn't fit my obligatory "no, gta 5 is not the only one who does this for fur" but i don't know how common the grass using the same technique is.

RDR2 does the same, albeit with a second pass and generally looks a bit better.

For bonus points, this frame i captured has 28,317 of the glowing dots, and my GPU rendered them all in 1/3rd of a millisecond.

As per usual, this is not a method unique to GTA 5. But I believe with how far they pushed it in the era of the PS3 this was pretty impressive.

random post about how gta5 manages to render every single light at all times

In this frame they render 22,877 tinted squares to achieve the lights.
Theres also 1,402 cone lights that actually light the surrounding LODs (like on near roads) and 57 point lights.

In GTA 5, the technique used for rendering fur on animals is also used (albeit tweaked) to render grass.

The technique is simply drawing multiple layers, which each being slightly larger (offset by normals, which slightly droop)

The grass shader is thus aptly named "grass_fur"

Dumb fun fact of the day:
The Vinewood sign's D is destructible. This is the only piece of it that is.
There is a dirt section that directly lines up with it so driving through it is easy.
Naturally, this is NOT a official stunt jump and isn't used for anything (that i know of)

I agree with this take. It's really frustrating people can't just form an opinion on anything themselves and just jump to labelling things because they heard other people saying it.

A side-by-side screenshot of GTA San Andreas.

The left side shows the PS2 version which has a warmer and more unique colour filter. The right side shows the PC version which has a cooler and arguably blander colour filter.

Genuinely surprised by the number of comments on my new video calling the colour filter of #GTA San Andreas on PS2 a "piss filter".

The "piss filter" most people complain about give games way more atmosphere than most games now.

Do people really think PC looks better??

Do not trust them for anything in the consumer space. They cannot do anything right for consumers, they don't commit to anything and they have no problem fucking you over when they inevitably give up.

A broken countryside rain timecycle entry on PC is something that completely slipped my mind until James covered it in his video. Although the "best" fix is to edit the broken line, SilentPatch now includes a fallback for this specific mistake and parses this line correctly.

I don't think a disclaimer is really necessary. People who are trying to "gotcha" on posts like that should probably find better things to do, it's not like you're claiming other games don't use similar methods.
