Read a few comics as a kid, but the bug didnβt kick in until avoiding studying for college finalsβ& there was the spinner rack. Eventually burned out by X-Men crossovers and New 52. Dipped a toe in again a few years ago and am feeling the joy again! π³οΈβπ

How about Orions?
It was a pretty good issue. Good conversations as Peter is brought up to speed.
Am I alone in wishing Peter would just tell May about his other life and predicament? How much can one woman overlook/forgive?
The ending was pretty, uh, shocking, and looking forward to the next installment.
The fantastic center spread shows a dramatic battle. Story and art by Brett Bean.

DβOrc, his shield, and that chicken draw me in, and I want to follow their adventures. Brett Bean is telling and drawing a terrific story, and Jean-Francois Beaulieu makes it vibrant.
The chicken that DβOrc killed accidentally with his possessed shield has a ghost head separated from his body. Story and art by Brett Bean.
β¦discover he is a Light/Dark creature. He carries a talking shield that just wants him to kill, but DβOrc doesnβt want to.
He finds himself in fights, though, and ends up killing an innocent creature with the shield, who then becomes a companion (a ghost chicken with itβs head separated from itsβ¦
DβOrc defeats two gangs of Light and Dark warriors with his possessed shieldβand then finds the unicorn meat burned. They walk away in search of a Gravy Gulch meal. Story and art by Brett Bean.
And thereβs a backstory about fighting factions of Light and Dark, a middle part of the land called the Scar, and a prophecy about a Light/Dark creature who will end the world as they know it.
Intriguing!
Itβs told with great humor, as our nameless hero is christened DβOrc when the warriorsβ¦.
Unlike I Hate Fairyland, I thought DβOrc was a lot of fun. I picked up the reprint of #1 on the recommendation of my LCS crew, and they rarely steer me wrong.
First of all, the issue is off to a great start by including a map with great names like Pits of Purgatory and Frost Elefant Graveyard. Yay!
β¦groove of something different. I want to give it a chance.

Cover to I Hate Fairyland Vol 1: Madly Ever After by Skottie Young shows Gertrude standing on a mushroom and holding a bloody double sided axe over her left shoulder. A lit bomb is in her right hand.
I wanted to like I Hate Fairyland. It seems to have the element I like.
Just a little over one issue in, I put it down.
Gertrude isβso far at leastβa character I want to follow. Sheβs murderous just because sheβs cranky at not being able to find the key to return home from Fairyland after severalβ¦

Thanks to @thirdeyecomics.bsky.social Customer Appreciation Dayβs 25% off sale, I picked up a few things to try (in addition to the additional TPs for the series Iβm already reading).
The store was packed, but the long line moved quickly because they have great staffβand 4 or 5 registers open. π
Whta I love about the DC alternate covers is that the original cover is inside. Canβt display it, but nice to have. π
Getting two covers makes paying the higher price somewhat worthwhile. At least I receive a nice discount from my LCS!

Avengers #340 (1991; Ron Lim)
Jan was kind of a bland character for a long timeβthough certainly having great momentsβuntil she became the Avengers chairman. That really showed her potential.

I will admit that heβs not as exciting a character as he once was. Luke received much better treatment.
However, I still have a soft spot for him, and the Deadly Hands of Kβun-Lun is off to a decent start, and he has a part in it.
Enjoyed this different take on an Avengers series.
