Ok so since my Smilodon sculpt has been getting some love I thought I’d throw together a little thread on my paper mache process! 🧵

A digital drawing of a Homotherium latidens cub, based on a mummy that was found in Siberia. Just a sleepy little thing. It's also fluffy and looks soft (or it does, at least! I did my best). I tried to draw the head from the side just like in the paper to show the resemblance, and also show the unique shape of it's paws. The background is dark, with a few stars that form constellations. There is one little star on the head of the cub, that shines slightly brighter than the others.

Three small illustrated portraits showing the head of a sabertooth (Homotherium) kitten from three angles. The cub has blue eyes, chocolate brown fur and a white tuft of hair on the chin. It closely resembles a lion cub in proportions, but has a more robust snout, smaller ears and a round forehead.
What an amazing little kitty!
A palaeontological dream come true - a three-week old sabertooth kitten was preserved in the Siberian permafrost. Surprisingly, even bleached by millenia in the soil, the fur is still a pretty dark brown. In life, it might have been nearly black.

OK, decided to tweak it a little because me trying to parallel the animal with the figurine displayed horizontally obscured the fact that it had high shoulders and not a flat back 🙃

Just learned the absolutely insane news that a cub of what is likely a Homotherium latidens was found and just described. Couldnt help but make a quick study of it. Too busy to take it any further now but i’m sure i’ll return to it as soon as I’m able
