The 31st Street ruling killing the bike lane might be one of the dumbest ever, because it's not just an error of judgement, it's an error of geometry!

I created and run the 38,000 strong MicromobilityNYC community, including organizing many of the marches for congestion pricing in NYC. We're doing culture shift and movement building.
The 31st Street ruling killing the bike lane might be one of the dumbest ever, because it's not just an error of judgement, it's an error of geometry!
06.12.2025 14:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The court docket doesn't say anything yet, but a TV reporter is claiming the 31st St bike lane has been killed. If this is real and isn't overturned on appeal (how even can a bike lane plan be arbitrary and capritious?) NYC can't build anything anymore because a handful of suburbanites can just sue
05.12.2025 23:03 β π 12 π 2 π¬ 1 π 1Let's stimulate those brain cells responsible for imagination
05.12.2025 14:53 β π 15 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I'm not saying we should, I'm just saying we could.
04.12.2025 23:19 β π 16 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Red light CRIMINAL summonses against cyclists.
Based on where enforcement happens, this is not just.
This may sound basic but I think having this explicitly stated is important. So much of the debate on this stuff actually comes down not even agreeing on basic values.
We end up arguing about details instead of the underlying priorities. We need an explicit hierarchy of priorities to appeal to
The next DOT Commissioner should explicitly state the city's priorities
03.12.2025 15:05 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0In case anyone is wondering, the Green Wave signal timing is not done on this new section yet. (Though the DOT has previously confirmed to me all sections will have it.) I tried to ride and shoot all 100 blocks but got caught at several red lights in the new section.
02.12.2025 15:09 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This one is just for the bike lane nerds. New route to the QBB is here:
02.12.2025 15:06 β π 13 π 2 π¬ 1 π 1One last failure on the way out: Eric Adams' last car free holiday on 5th Ave will again only be 1 day, and only for 10 blocks, for 6 hours.
01.12.2025 18:28 β π 10 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0For the fragile men out there:
01.12.2025 15:32 β π 14 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They're putting out so many ebike hit pieces it's pretty hard to keep them straight
30.11.2025 18:13 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is backwards. They've found an individual case of harm and ignored the big picture reality that in aggregate ebikes greatly *reduce* danger on our streets by getting some people out of cars, the mode inflicting the vast majority of injuries and killing.
30.11.2025 17:57 β π 31 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0In case anyone does not see how dishonest this is, it's just basic propaganda. You find someone somewhere (hopefully a pretty white woman!) that was legitimately harmed, and then you just constantly repeat that story until ppl associate it with ebikes. Eventually come to associate ebikes with danger
30.11.2025 17:57 β π 28 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0The Car and Oil industries are going to work overtime to paint ebikes as dangerous instead of a solution to the danger of cars, and legacy corporate media like the NYT are going to help them
30.11.2025 17:48 β π 216 π 47 π¬ 12 π 5NYC urbanists have a lot to be thankful for in 2025. What a crazy year:
27.11.2025 12:46 β π 14 π 2 π¬ 0 π 1Riders going over the Pulaski have basically doubled since the pandemic, proof that if you build it (McGuinness, 11th) they will come.
26.11.2025 14:33 β π 75 π 13 π¬ 2 π 3This quote from the people sueing to try and kill a bike lane in Brooklyn is just too fucking funny.
"We want the court to represses people's first amendment rights because we're worried if they knew how we're trying to kill them they might not buy from us"
We MUST learn the lesson from 31st's ave one problem section - RAT RUNNING.
25.11.2025 15:04 β π 7 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Well this will be fun in NYC. Can't wait.
24.11.2025 18:26 β π 17 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Bike lanes along park edges are a no brainer, yet somehow another year is gone with lanes missing along Central Park.
24.11.2025 17:14 β π 22 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0The hard truth: If this Council fails to pass Universal Daylighting or passes a watered down version, kids will die, and it will be entirely Adrienne Adams' fault.
22.11.2025 18:34 β π 62 π 17 π¬ 1 π 2Daylighting.
This Coca Cola truck is parked illegally in the daylighting at this intersection. Had I been 2 seconds ahead this cab driver making a blind turn without yielding would have killed me.
You have 1 week left to enjoy outdoor dining in NYC before they are ripped out
20.11.2025 16:31 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 2This is a BIG deal, because it is the continuation of by far the largest GREEN WAVE in the city. (lights are timed for us at 15mph, not the normal of 25 for cars.) You'll soon be able to go over 100 blocks without stopping for a red light. Honestly all lights in the city should be timed this way
19.11.2025 14:25 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 0 π 1Bike lanes bring order from chaos. (3rd Ave just got green paint)
19.11.2025 14:20 β π 32 π 4 π¬ 1 π 0Literally half the days in next month in NYC are gridlock alert days. We will do nothing to deter traffic though, because Gov. Hochul decided it was more important to pander to suburban Car Karens when implementing congestion pricing.
18.11.2025 18:29 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0I want to live in a world where removing the damage done by urban highways doesn't sound impossible or crazy
