Millions will be impacted by pause in food stamps and other forthcoming changes to SNAP program   • The TRiiBE As the pause in SNAP benefits dominate conversations, the Greater Chicago Food Depository is informing residents about program changes made by the Trump administration.

If SNAP benefits are halted next month, it will mark the first time in history the program has not been funded during any government shutdown.

The food stamp program was first established during the Great Depression in the 1930s under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

State Senator Graciela Guzman is out here in front of the facility demanding the release of two of her constituents (who are U.S. citizens), asking to speak with federal agents. No response from them so far. Shes putting on a respirator.

An ICE agent unholstered his gun at a protest this morning.

JUST NOW — Our reporters are at the Broadview ICE facility (outside of Chicago) where protestors have been demonstrating since 5:00 a.m.

As a cargo van left the facility, a federal agent on the roof started shooting what seems to be pepper balls at protestors just before 9:00 a.m.

They just tear-gassed us. They tried to run us over in a van holding a peaceful protester. They shot us with pepper balls. They dragged another protester into the facility.
